the wobbles

yea I know that death wobble is covered numberous times every day, but i have something that is a little different. My TJ only gets the shakes when people are sitting in the back seat. Me and another person... nothing. But when people are in the back she wants to wobble around 35-40 why would this be? Would that really change the geometry enough to cause the shakes? They are not hella bad but just enough to make me wonder about it.

I don't think I'll have an answer, but where is the shake seeming to come from? Are you feeling it more in the steering wheel, or does it feel more like a chassis shake?

I think one of two things is happening...

Either you have a balance problem or bent rim on the rear axle that is becoming more pronounced when you weigh down the rear end,

or

You have a CV style driveshaft that is going slightly out of line when you add weight to the rear end.

Just how big is your back seat girlfriend?

I've never heard of this? this is a first

Is your jeep lifted?
Possible slight change in pinion angles due to increased load in the rear causing a slight vibration in rear driveline??
Or is it really a wobble felt in the steering wheel?

yea it has a RE 3.5" standard lift and the shake is in the front axle for sure nothing to do with the rear. I can see it out of my window the front tire kinda wobbles like its slithering like a snake just back and forth. I have a RE adjustable track bar on it but i dont think that would be an issue

I'd put it on jackstands and start shaking the trac bar and the control arms looking for a worn out bolt or the hole around that bolt being opened up due to wear.

Either that or take out the rear seat like we do.

well, since its' been lifted, and more wight in the back.. it is theoretically possible that your caster angle is off.
