Proper shock travel with RE 5.5
I am working on my first Jeep build: RE 5.5 Long-arm suspension; RockJocks; LS1; STaK 3 speed; with a CJ7 body. But I am replacing the front coil buckets and shock mounts with Currie's Coil-over bracket. I am curious if anyone has used this coil-over bracket and if so, how much higher was the shock mount than stock?
Ultimately, I am trying to determine what travel of shocks I should order. The new frame is at the frame builders, so I don't have the frame to measure properly. He is saying use a 10" travel shock. That seems pretty small to me, given a RE 5.5 lift and the coil-over bracket that would be higher than stock. Any ideas, suggestions, pictures, or flames, please feel free to send my way. |

you have to cycle the suspension, to buy them now would be retarded. I had to put in some coil 3/4" spacers and smaller shocks on a rubi 5.5 long arm because the supplied shocks pushed the shock mount right through the frame on compression. This was only in the rear the smaller shock body gave him 3inches of compression and 10 inches of travel. Since your frame and buckets are different you need to wait period. Good luck
BTW check rubicon express, they show the shock length compressed and extended. Ten in the front wouldn't be enough

Yeah
I took my jeep with no shocks, flexed it out in as many different ways as possible, and then measured what the shock would be length wise with a tape measure. Wheel stuffed, wheel dropped, etc. etc.

I figured the best was was through flexing everything, but the problem is my frame, axles, and coil mounts are an 8hr drive away at the frame builders and before I can get it home to work on, I need some springs/shocks for the front to be able to load it on a flatbed.
Looking to see if anyone has used the Currie coil-over brackets. |

well if your doing the RE 5.5 coils just through them in and put it on a flat bed, you dont need shocks for that.

I am not using the RE front coils. Rather I am installing the Currie coil-over bracket up front and running SAW coil-overs. Hence the real reason to need shocks prior to trailering.

1. Wait for the jeep to show up.
2. Cycle and articulate the suspension every way you can. 3. Build your own shock hoops to the height you need, and sell the curries to somebody on JU.
