need some advise with my cherokee
So i just picked up a used 2000 cherokee for a steal with low low miles. the only bad thing is it is 2 wheel drive. what is the easy way to convert it to four wheel (and cost effective). i was looking under it and it is pretty much the same setup as the 4wheel drive. any help would be much appreciated.

Transmission, transfercase, shifter, driveshafts and front axle from a 4wd cherokee. It all just bolts on.

otherwise you can swap in all that other shit but you basically need a 4wd parts jeep to that with anyway...think about it,it makes more sense to sell the 2wd and buy a 4wd then you dont have to round up a bunch of parts and then swap them in the 2wd, plus the inside already is set up for your t-case shifters etc. to me its a no brainer but its up to you

Yes, you can convert them. Mine started as 2wd.
![]() ![]() Key points: - get a trans, t-case, and shift linkage from the same vehicle from a similar year, unless you know how to tell the specific differences between the different versions of these parts - the floor already has a sealed opening for the t-case shifter, but it's still a bitch, and you'll have to cut your carpet to get to it - front axle bolts in, but avoid the vac. disconnect ones for simplicity, and make sure the gear ratio matches Whether it's economic and practical is your own decision.

I was going to do it to a 2wd MJ that I had. I had a donor trans/t-case, linkage, front shaft, and D30. It's not hard to do if you have a nice rig and want to build on it. All bolts up once you have the parts.
I ended up building a buggy and sold the 2wd MJ. Still have the spare trans/t-case and D30.
