Axle Shaft Replacement

When you change out your axle shafts do you have to grease the new shafts before putting them back in?

What Jeep? What axle? Are you asking about the axle shafts themselves, or the hubs that go on the axle shafts? Axle shafts do not get greases, just be careful to hold axle shaft to center of axle seals as you slide them in. The hubs are non servicable.

On a model 20 and dana 44 semi float rear axle shafts , the wheel/axle bearings are in between an inner and outer seals .The inner seal keeps the axle oil inside and the outer axle/wheel seal keeps outside crap out and GREASE in the wheel/axle bearing . So if this is what you have , then yes , pack the axle bearing with grease before installing shaft into housing .
