I have a 92 cherokee with 3:07s with a NP231 t-case. my question is I came across some 33x12.50-15 BFGs for a killer price, im wanting to slap those babies on the cherokee but i was told that jeep is going to bog even more than it does now, what do i do? I have another set of axles with 4:11 gears and a detroit but i was after the economy of the 3:07s and i know of the 4:1 low range kit from teraflex. What is your guys opinion?
x3. A friend of mine used to own a TJ with a 4.0 and factory 3.07 gearing. Even with a five-speed, that thing couldn't get out of its own way -- and that was with street tires!
I didn't have 33's but I ran 35 with the 3.07 before I regeared and basically lost 5th gear unless I was going down hill. It was ok in 4 low when I was in the snow, but didn't do well in the rocks when I needed to crawl.
yeah put the axles in, you need to use all your gears to get good power and economy 4:11 will be right about the same as with stock tires should be perfect.
Thanks guys i will put those 4:11 back underneath the old rig. One more question i just brought a 93 xj with an 8.25 rear end and a two piece d30 front end packed with 3:55 would they still not be enough to spin those 33s in 2h on the pavement or in 4low in the rocks?
Can i pull the ring & pinion out of my two piece 92 hp d30 front and switch the ring & pinion out of my vacum actuated 84 d30 front end? I dont want the vacum nor do I have the vacum lines to actuate the pump on the front end.
I've got 3.55s and 32s there way to high I get real bad mileage in town doing stop and go, and I can do 75 in second so i'm going to get some 4.11s I think you can switch the gears around no problem I would definitely try to get rid of the disconnect axle the 3.55s use a smaller carrier so you will have to swap that over too.
I have a '99 with 3.50 in the axles and 33's. Does fine for me unless you really like to haul ass on the freeway. I can get to 100MPH still, but it takes a while. The engine may have a little more pep in it, being newer. I just drove a 240 mile trip recently on 33x12.50R15 BFG muds and got 19.6 MPG out of it. Fifth gear is usable, but won't tolerate any hills or wind.
4.11 is probably still better, but not totally necessary.
