i have a YJ with a AX-15 trans, i noticed when it warms up and i stop in lets say 3rd gear and then try to pull it out of gear it won't or its hard to. then it won't go back into gear after it seems like its locked but when i try to go in reverse it grinds. if i turn off the engine then it shifts fine, i checked the oil and it looks good but i did notice that my floor boards by the trans gets hot not sure if im just noticing it or its a problem. what could be the problem?
might have worn out or loose shift forks, or maybe a bad throw out bearing causing the input shaft to keep spinning with the clutch in, or clutch not disengaging all the way
sounds like clutch/slave cylinder issues, sounds like for whatever reason the clutch isn't disengageing, thats probably why its "stuck" in gear and it "grinds in reverse".
Same thing happend to me, my clutch with less then 1000mi on it had a flaw in it, it cracked and spit one of the springs part of the way out.
well how would i figure this out....would i pull the trans and look at the clutch or just pull the trans apart and replace the parts and hope for the best?
drop the trans, go from there, since you have a YJ this is also a chance to convert to an external slave cylinder, if you search there are a bunch of write ups on doing it out there.
