A few weeks ago I throw a rod through the pan on my 4.0 cherokee. Well, last weekend I swapped in a new engine. What I am wondering is this. My Jeep has idiot lights instead of gauges. I don't know if the jeep that the engine came out of had gauges or lights. As soon as I start the engine, the idiot light for the coolant is bright red. I was just wondering if anybody knew whether or not the gauge sensor would make the light light up like that?
I am going to swap in a new gauge cluster soon, but was just wondering about this.
check on the head to see if there is a sensor wire and plug there that you might have missed. My jeep is the same way but I have a 2.5L so it might be a little different.
I know where the sensor is, and it is plugged in. I think I read that there are different sensors for the idiot lights then the gauges. I will have to look into that a little more. Thanks for the help.
If the sensor is for dummy lights, it's off till the coolant is outside of the range. Like a switch.
If it's set up for gauges, it's on but variable resistance so your light would come on with the key switch
So most likely, you have to change the sensor
Awesome, that is what I was wondering. I am just going to swap out gauge clusters. It's something I've been wanting to do anyways. The only thing I won't hook up will be the oil pressure gauge, as the PO installed one in the jeep already.
