My alternator gauge dropped off on the way to work this morning. I assumed it was a bad alternator. I replaced the alternator and it is still not charging. I know that the alternator is externally regulated by the PCM. Does that look like it may be the problem? I don't want to spend $250 on a new PCM if that is not the problem. I did leave the top off last night in the rain, but I don't think that would be an issue.
hey, no the rain shouldnt have affected to much, i had the same problem with my 90 XJ, after my alt. crapped out on me. i replaced it with a mean green 220amp, the gauge never read above 12.5, i also had a optima red top, it couls just be the gauge. do notice dimmer lights?
I found a blown 50 amp maxi-fuse labeled "alternator power" in the fusebox. I replaced the fuse and it keeps blowing. Getting pulled home through Detroit by a fellow Jeeper with a tow strap was pretty sweet.
