I just got done installing a TJ fuel tank into my YJ, but not had any luck getting the gauge to function.. I have heard others saying they got it to work, with my search has left me with no answers. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I'll answer the question before it's asked.. I used the TJ tank because I had no other options and this was free with the sending unit and pump, plus it saved me from running an external fuel pump..
take the sending units out of each tank and measure the ohms for each sender. If they are close in range, and function in the same way (empty equals X ohms, and full equals Y ohms) then you should be good to go. If they read opposite of each other, then you will either have to swap the yj sender onto the TJ pump hanger, or go to an aftermarket gauge.
TJ and YJ sending units work opposite each other. I don't have the ohm readings here and don't remember them off the top of my head.
But....I also put a TJ tank/pump in my YJ and did the research to make my gas gauge work. I removed the TJ sending unit and modified a YJ sender to fit on the TJ pump. Gauge works perfectly after that.
