My friends and I decided to go have some fun and set up a zip line over a local pound using a climbing rope, pulley and of coarse my winch to cinch (spelling?) the thing tight. In the process of using the 4 low to crawl over a bunch of 3-4 ft sand hills from a small dump truck it looks like, I heard metal snap. First thought was WTF i wasn't even doing anything other then putting over these things.
Turns out i popped a cap off a U-joint and it stretched the ears out on the outer shaft, i still might be able to save the inner, despite the fact that i noticed half of one of the caps is stick out. Its a Waggy D44, are all D44 outers the same? I don't have the cash atm for chromo shafts, i didn't need them up to this point as i bomb around old man style now since the economy is so bad i can't afford to fix shit if it breaks. It appears one of the little clips slipped out and thats why the cap came off. Ive heard of guys doing a small tack weld to keep the caps in then just grinding it off when they need to replace it. Any thoughts or answers? Im really really trying to around a 200 dollar U-joint and 250 dollars worth of shafts that i still don't think i need.
