How can I increase MPG for my 2001 XJ?
Hi- just wondering what parts I should add/replace so I can increase my MPG?
I'm currently averaging 15 mpg and it's killing me!! I have heard the following parts will help: Cherry Bomb Glasspack muffler, Bosch Platinum+4 plugs, bored throttle body/spacer, premium intake, etc... Thanks for any help! |

automatic or stick? if it's an auto, you are now paying for the parsitic drag from a torque converter that no one used to pay attention to. if its a stick. you got issues.
Next you probably should include more useful info like tire size, gear ratio, 4cyl or 6cyl thought im assuming 6cyl, average highway speed, if you run the AC, how many times you roll down the window to flip boogers into traffic, type of terrain in your area, your elevation, and the type of anal lube you intend to use with a question like this on pirate board. oh yeah grade of oil in the engine too

that would be a little bit of a challenge. This is an advanced tech forum so get your panties out of your ass. at least you could spell fuck right but then again that would be asking alot from someone who couldnt even read the whole post. Or at least provide some useful info other than 3 posts worth of crap or trolling. You should pull your collective head out of your ass while picking at your panties. Heres a couple of pointers copied from another thread if you really want an answer 1. Pay attention to spelling and grammar. You look like an idiot when you spell wrong. Don't use text-speak either. You're not paying by the character. 2. If you ask for advice and we give it to you, take it. Don't tell people you're going to do it your way anyway. the collective knowledge and experience here is immeasurable. 3. Learn to read the newbie check in here and forum rule threads before posting questions 4. If we flame you it's probably because of #2 or #3. 5. Read the FAQ. Figure out how to use the search button its your friend and will prevent you from looking like the tard you are looking like right now. If you want, you could try and post a few more questions about what a U joint is, what are all the wires for under the hood and see where that gets you in this forum. Or maybe you could ask us to pat you on the ass with some powder, direct you to the forum that uses KY and send you a nipple to suck on after you get done bitching about your lack of backbone and balls. but hey Tuesday's a longways away so i was giving you the benefit of the doubt. Provide some facts on your vehicle or go back to searching for gay porn sites. BTW my 93 cherokee which i drive daily is a 4.0 ho with ax15/231 has 29" tires 3.08 gears no lift gets 23-24 on the highway driving 60-65 from sea level to 7000 ft. mainly flat driving for that mileage on hills it gets 20-21 like going up to tahoe and back and it averages 18-19 around town that is running stock lubes 5/30 originally from day one in the motor and now 10/30 change at 3000 miles after 3k milegae drops significantly....... but then again my example includes details that make inturpreting the mileage easier and diagnosing the conditions surrounding your mileage easier. saying i'm getting 15mpg i have an 01 cherokee what do i do? is like a teenager trying to rub one off with out a hardon, gotta look at the pictures and get hard before you can grease the sheets. though you are asking for a maricle trying to get a flying brick to be efficient

Wow,...very creative,... Hey ASSHAT did you not read the disclaimer?? I was going to be nice and direct you to the right forum but pulling that BS and trying to flame people here put you up for open season,.. Cherokee Tech Mission Statement and The Jeep Talk Bible (Read before posting) The intent of this forum is to have a place to go for modified unibody questions that are of mid to hardcore level without having to search threw all the TJ, YJ, CJ tech type questions. Think of it as an advanced technical forum for unibody rigs. What belongs in this forum? Here are some examples: major modifications and up-grades not normally purchased as a kit, but that require individual ingenuity, innovation, and perseverance in design. Unibody reinforcement, larger axle swaps, fitting big tires, JeepSpeed builds, fabbing 3 and 4 link suspensions, custom fabricated parts, drivetrain swaps, and other advanced/fabrication type questions Cherokee based buggy tech would be the most hardcore level of tech here, but this forum won't be the best place to find answers for those types of questions, one of the other forums on this site would have more info and get better responses of those few extreme XJ based buggys... The common theme here is fabrication, advanced technical information and questions. What doesn't belong in this forum? What size tire fits with a 3" lift, bolt ons, drivability issues, parts identification, troubleshooting stock electrical issues, or questions about budget boost kits and countless other things... There is a Non-hardcore Jeep forum(flame free) in place here on this site and are many other sites with forums that are already available for stock, entry level and bolt on type questions. Think of this as a college level forum, so don't post kindergarten level and grade school topics here. Kindergarden and grade school questions belong in the Non-hardcore Jeep forum or on a different site. This forum is for the the guys that think outside of the box, get their suntans at night from welding, put their blood and sweat into their builds, aren't afraid of the sawzall, and enjoy building parts instead of buying them. Shit, I drive an 01 Mustang GT and get 20 mpg. You don't have to buy a ricer to have an affordable daily ride. The best thing for fuel economy is to drive like an old lady and slow the fuck down on the freeway. It is free, so you don't even have to waste time recouping any money spent. Instant relief at the pump.

Go slower. I got 19.5 mpg in my stock '05 rubicon on the last trip I took. I didn't bother monitoring my speed, I kept it at or below 2500 rpms. I was usually right around 65mph. It took me an hour longer to get from MO to AL and from AL back to MO but the two hours round trip were well worth the money saved. I don't have cruise either...it was a long 10 hours of holding my foot on the skinny pedal. But if you are talking about city miles...15mpg is good in any Jeep. I doubt I get that while city driving and I drive like an old lady these days.
