XJ Question
I have a question for all you XJ gurus. Will a 4.3 chevy swap in place of the shitty 2.8 that could be had? What all will I need parts wise, other than the 4.3 and relating harness and ecu, XJ, and motor mounts?

Well, No.
most 4.3s are a 90 deg V6 different mounting and trans than the 60 deg 2.8. Bigger job than you may suspect. Although a swap from a late 90s Chev full size 4x4 with the 4.3 will work with the whole powertrain. I was actually wondering myself what DOES bolt to whatever trans they put behind the 2.8 in the Jeeps... |

The 4.0 Caddy V8 (sideways Fwd motor) will bolt up to the existing 2.8 tranny, and the 3.4 is basically a bolt in. Those are the only 2 "common swaps" I've heard of besides full replacement of everything 2.8 related.
The swaps on the 2.8 tubs are harder because of the early (smaller) inner fender/firewall configuration. Basically pass it up and get a later model XJ to use as a platform. |
