Helping a friend with his 97 TJ. Brake lights don't work and only the rear signals flash (very fast). No hazzard flashers either. I have read several posts about the turn signal switch (multi function sw) going bad when left exposed to elements. Could this kill the brake lights also? Most just complained of the signals.

Checked the brake pedal sw. Seems to functions fine. Altought I don't know why there are five wires on it when only one seems to change state as switch is toggled. The turn signal sw. is receiving 12V from the pedal sw. Traced the rears light wires to drivers kickpanel and no 12V there. Can't find a wire in the turn signal sw. which matchs color to the wire in kick panel, although I know they are connected somehow.

So, can the multifunction, turn switch be linked to the no brake lights?

Clean out the bulb sockets and check the tail light housing grounds...

It was the turn signal (mlti function) switch. Found one for $45 and all is now good.
