Drag link hitting tie rod
Well i have been busy getting my rig ready for a trip in two weeks and just noticed that i have a new problem. I recently went and switched my springs out to stock yj springs and put them soa. Everything looks good except for when the drivers side is flexed the tie rod on the drag link where it attaches to the pitman arm hits the tie rod that goes from the drivers side to passenger side wheel. Has anybody ever had this problem with theirs? What can i change out to fix this before the trip in two weeks?
Thanks, Ben |

CJ7 or YJ? Do you have a drop pitman arm? If so go back to stock. If not I think you can use a CJ7 pitman that is straight. On mine even with a flat pitman my drag link was lower on the steering box side, so I tapered the pitman arm from the top so that the drag link tie rod dropped into the pitman instead of up into it. I was only able to do that because I have Toy axles and the high steer tie rod ends were larger than stock.
Another option might be to use a pitman from a 90's full size chev van, they are turned up as opposed to dropped. Steering box end would be fine but not sure what size tie rod end they would have compared to the Jeep. I was going to do this but never got around to it.

If you look around on here your answear can be found...I am no guru but here is some help: what axles are you running? If your high steer and both the draglink and tierod are mounted to your highsteer arm on your knuckle
, then you should measure from the center of your ball joint to center of your highsteer arm draglink hole( probably 7 1/4 inch). Then you will need to locate a pitman arm that matches that 7 1/4 throw, probably a 7in stock waggy pitman arm( nearly flat)...Then a Parts Mike YJ relocation bracket for your steer gear box( you may or may not need this) to clear the waggy arm....This all fixes your issue, and gives you full lock to lock steering...or you can use a stock YJ arm and reduce your steeri ng.... Hope this helps.. Check the Thread: /forum/jeep-non-hardcore/818269-another-yj-pitman-arm-issue.html |
