1961 Jeep CJ-?

Hi all. I recently purchased a 61 Jeep that was supposed to be a CJ5. I didn't think that they had CJ5's yet in 1961, so I'm just trying to find out what it could be. More importantly, I've been looking for a resource to find out what kind of motor it has(there's a 4 cyl in it), what model tranns, front axle, rear axle, so I can try to get spare parts. Thanks in advance

early cj-5

1955-1971 was the timeframe for the "short wheelbase" cj-5. 1972 was the beginning of the v8 in which the front end was extended 4 inches.

you should have a f134 4cyl. t90 3 speed tranny, dana 18 transfercase,

dana 25 closed knuckle front end, offset dana 44 rearend.

there is a website earlycj5.com which has some good info.

I happen to have a few misc. parts for the early cj so what are you looking for>?

I have a set of one piece 30 spline dutchman axles for the rear end. the stock 44 has 2 piece 19 spline axles.

Thanks for the info. The situation is, this thing is going to have to be my DD for a while(I only have a 15 mile round trip commute), and I'm just looking for a source of parts just incase for anything that might go out on me.

Yes it's completely bone stock. I'll be leaving it that way for a while! When I picked it up I drove about 28 miles with no hiccups or problems, so I'm hoping it'll get me 14 miles a day for a bit.
