1989 MJ Auto Trans shiffting issue any help?

This MJ has a wierd shifting problem. Whatever gear it is in in the gate is the gear you are in. If you shift to 3rd, it is starts out in third, if you shift into OD it starts out in overdrive. I have switched in new shifting selnoids. Didnt work. I have swaped in a rebuilt trans I had from my same year XJ. Same damn problem. This leads me to believe it is a computer related? Tranny computer? If its not mechanical....this is where I become lost. Any help would be great thanks.

Might want to have this moved over to the "non-hardcore" section. You prolly get a quicker response

This is just a guess since I'm not there to drive it and check it out, but yes it sounds like the TCM(tranny computer) is not working properly. The TPS is often the culprit but this usually leads to improper shifting as compared to no shifting. Check the fuses, wiring from trans. to TCM could be just something that simple. Good luck.

the fuse closest to the TCM is not blown. I have another TCM that is in my XJ not being used. I am going to switch that now and see if anything changes. I will update later. Thanks again.

Make sure you have power to the fuse connector,.. see if it acts the same way with the fuse out,...
