Quick OBA question. York 210 related

Can you take a "York" brand top and put it on a "Motorcraft" brand housing? Both are the 210 style.

The reason is I dropped my york housing and broke one of the mounting tabs/ears off. I have a good Motorcraft housing but the suc. and discharge are on the wrong sides. Can you switch these two tops?

EDIT: yes I searched and could not find a for certain yes or no.

Probably not...the valve plate routing is probably different, and I'm not sure it'll seat up properly. It's been a while since I looked at either of them though, so I'm not sure if you can make it work or not.

I didn't know if the pistons inside were made just for one function or if that little dowel pin on the flange is in a different place. I will tear them down and check tomorrow.

Best thing to do is to go to kilby's site and ask Brad, he would know.

the pistons are identical, the valve plate is all that determines intake vs outlet. I forgot about the dowel pins also...

I really don't think they'll work. I think there's a comparison between the two online with pictures describing the differences, I'd check for that.

Nope, it will not work. If you line up the dowel pins it sets the port to the same place it was. So the answer is, no it will not work.

Thanks guys.

Wait...what? The valve plate determines intake and output...not the head, not the body or pistons. The head is keyed to the valve plate with the dowels. If the valve plate will work with the case, it should work fine. I'm not understanding what you mean by "sets the port to the same place it was." You should be able to just transfer your York valve plate and head onto the Motorcraft body, if it'll fit, and it should run just fine.

I think you just left the motorcraft valve plate with the opposite output on the body and just tried to swap the heads.

This the top off the Motorcraft. It is a left side suction.

This is the valve plate removed. the dowel pins are under the discharge side of the valve plate/head/whatever its called.

The pins go completely throught the head/valve plate and into the top plate.

Note: I painted the York orange so you can tell the difference in them.

Top of York. This is a right side suction.

side by side- Notice the dowel pin holes

York stuff- Just as it came off.

Motorcraft stuff- Just as it came off

Now, does that clear things up.

This is the whole reason for the swapping around problem. This is the mount for the magnet that broke off. Once I found out you can't swap stuff in-between them, I put some JB Weld on it. We'll see if it holds.

yeah that's some shit...i'd just drill new dowel pin holes in the motorcraft body and be done with it. I didn't know they were so similar...I coulda sworn there were major differences between the two types.

there is a difference with the oil galley. It's ported to the suction side through the body of the compressor. I'd imagine that if you blocked it off it might not be a deal breaker.
