Need rear Dana 44 help
Facts: Need wheelbearing and seal information for a Dana 44. Problem is I have no idea what year, or make the Dana 44 came from. It came from a previous owner. I do know it has 11x2" wangoneer drum brakes, at least that is what fit. It also seems to match the width of narrowtrack CJ Dana 30 (slightly narrower). It does not seem to be from a pre '76 CJ7, nor one of the rare '86 CJ7s. Any insight would be helpful, read below to hear about the saga. (currently broken in moab utah) THANKS!
Story: Hey! I just towed out from San Jose CA to Moab Utah to wheel Moab for the first time. I posted over in the Trail Ride forum. Long story short= Jeep is broke. But wait, its from doing stupid shit on the trail. Allied Auto Works in Los Altos CA screwed me. Now I need the experts here to help me out. I'd much rather spend my money at a competent shop in Moab then give Allied a penny. Longer story: Had jeep in the shop before trip for wheel bearings and seals among other stuff. The shop had trouble matching up the correct bearings for my non stock Dana 44. Less than 40 miles on the jeep since "repair" and a great day wheeling Cliff Hanger trail, a wheelbearing lets go and attempts to seize up my wheel while I'm driving back from the trailhead, almost took me off the road. Now I need a shop to fix a problem I just had "fixed" 4 days ago in CA. What I really need is someone who actually knows something and will know what the correct parts are. If this is a shop great, they have my business! If this is a friend of a friend or fellow Pirate4x4 member awesome. I'll buy you a 12pack and give you my first born. I would love to get this fixed right and get back out on the trails enjoying this gorgeous countryside. Please hit me up. I heard Moab 4x4 Outpost is a great shop, any other suggestions? Know of anyone who can do this Monday, or even Sunday and get me back on the trail? Just wish I had had the opportunity to break my own parts on the trail, and not have an incorrect part fail leaving me in moab without a jeep I can break. Info: 1981 CJ7. Dana44 rearend with what appears to be wagoneer 11x2" brakes, maybe a clue to the original donor. It does not appear to be an '86 Dana 44 like some CJ7s had, and from the shop's opinion doesn't seem to be a pre '76 Dana 44. That said it is narrow and seems to match the tiny original narrowtrack Dana 30 upfront. Might just be time for 60's Thanks for the advice and help in advance. PM me or call my cell, six-five-zero.269.thirtysix twelve.

Update: Took it into Moab 4x4 Outpost today. Gave it to Steve for him to take a look. 5 different sources said he was the best in town. Crossing my fingers I can get back to wheeling before I need to leave.
Update: Steve and "Buck" took a look today and worked overtime figuring everything out. Turns out no one can tell me what application my D44 came from. But what they did do was find the source of the problem and come up with a creative and reliable solution. I now have a working jeep and will be back hitting the trails tomorrow. A HUGE thanks to Moab 4x4 Outpost and Steve and Buck for their hard work. They went above a beyond for a total stranger. Looks like Allied might make things right and cover the bill, time will tell.
