98 TJ Gauges, Radio, and Interior light not working

Trying to help out a buddy with some odd issues,

98 TJ 4.0 Auto

The Gauges, Radio, and Interior light has stopped working all at once, All fuses check out. Searched and allot of people point to the plugs on the cluster, which we have checked. Not sure how that would affect the radio and the interior light.

Any Suggestions?

Jeep had an issue with the ground wire on some of these. They had 2 ground wires, 1 under the dash on the driver side and one under the dash on the passenger side. Sorry but don't recall exactly where and which one was for what. Mine had issue with the one on passenger side and about half my dash lights would not work some of the time.
Maybe that will help out.
I will see if I can locate my diagram and remember where the ground wires are exactly. You should be able to search for this and find it on the internet.

My 98 TJ radio is not hooked up to the factory wiring, and the interior lights are unplugged because i keep the doors off. As for the gauges, mine go dead all the time. Just push the top right corner of the surround for the gauges and they come right back on.

That may be where the ground wire was. On mine it is usually the heater/ac section that I goes out and you can tap the dash around the glove box and they come back on. I need to pull it apart and run a new ground wire one day, but for now a gentle tap does the trick.

Thanks for the info,

He said he hit the roll bar on a tree, But thought it was after the stuff stopped working I am betting this is it.

Thanks again

Had him unplug the sound bar. Still nothing. If it were pinched in the sound bar, would he need to reset any thing or say pull the battery lead or so? Any other suggestions.

Don't have good schematics handy, but from the ones I have at hand. Double check fuse # 17 in the Power Distribution Center and #10 in the fuse block.
These are the only ones that I see that are common to your problems.
If they are good, then my guess will be a bad ground wire.
Let me know what you find and if they are both good, then I will try to find my good schematics and see what I can find out.

Also there would be no need to re-set anything if it had been a pinched wire. If the wire was pinched to the point that it was shorting out it would have blown a fuse anyway.

I think starting in 98 all of those items you describe go through the instrument cluster and are controlled by the PCM. Me thinks your cluster took a dump.

I've got a good working one out of an 04 Rubicon if you need one... Make me an offer
