Learn to drive with a locker and shove in a detroit.

Seriously.

No failure points, predictable operation, strong. I have driven many vehicles with lockers on the street with no real issues. Snow, ice, rain, whatever. Just take your time and think ahead.

Besides that, there are E-Lockers, which seem to have some issues over 35 inch tires, OX cable lockers, and ARBs. ARBs are the gold standard in selectable diffs, and work great... as long as you have working on board air, your air lines secured and properly plumbed, solenoids working correctly, and your axle seals do not decide to pule gear oil into the air lines. At which point they fail, and they usually fail to the "open" position

Detroits if you have the cash or knowledge to do it yourself, or Aussie lockers. The only time you will notice a locker on the street is pulling into a parking place or if it snows. And if its snowing out and pending if you keep decent tires on your rig, the extra traction will help you, not hinder you. I drive on snowy icy, New England roads every winter. Most of the time traction is better then a normal 4x4 with just the rear locker, let alone the front.

Ive run both without any issues, the guy who sells Aussie lockers is a member here on the board, and unlike many lunchbox lockers I don't believe there is a tire size restriction on them.
