So, I've been fighting my e-brake for years now, and being a stick shift, I really want it working. It would make wheeling easier and better for me.
Part of my problem is having the 8.8 in the rear and trying to adapt the cables over to my e-brake setup. I know they make a kit for this. I have done this and it works, well kinda, but not on steep hills, in rocks and when the drum brakes get mud, or water in them. Most of my problem is that the small drum brakes (used just for e-brake) are just to small to stop the tires I have (I'm running 39.5 swampers that are 15.5 wide). So I think it would be better to have some setup that I can tap into my main brake line and use the rear disk's for an e-brake. Like line lock, but a manual way that I can use the e-brake handle to operate. I have read several build threads and done searches on how others have done this. I’m posting in the non hard core area in hopes of not getting flamed. I’ve been on Pirate a long time. Nothing seems to be just what I'm looking for. This is also a street driven jeep. Any suggestions other then getting a bigger axle

many people are going to sway you away from a line lock because they can lose pressure over time (thus why it is not usually a DOT option). But if you are looking for "extra" you may want to consider just using both systems?
Line lock for the immediate hold but your regular drum in hat ebrakes as your built in redundancy in case the line pressure dissipates? Or you could get a pinion brake set up and somehow rig your one ebrake handle to work the rear ebrake and pinion ebrake at the same time? that would be pretty trick. MICO makes some good hydralic locks manual and electric, but VERY expensive.....
bout halfway down the page http://www.mico.com/store/brake_locks This is kind of what I am looking for but for cheap and would work off of my ebrake handle.

My only concern would be about the throw it would take from the ebrake handle since you have to move it further. any insight? |
