I was doing some cleaning on the frame in the steering box area and this fell off !!! I guess in retrospect i was cleaning with a grinder, oh well i guess I will reform it a little and move it as far forward as i can figure out how and then re-attach it. Seems like I remember that happening to Bill's Tomb Raider Jeep build on the MOAB Offroad site too.
Thanks to Max @ MOAB Offroad for the know how and willingness to share it with do-it yourselfers !!!
Just finished for the eve, only had a couple of hours to work on it this eve. These pic's show kinda where it would land but I think I would plug and re-bore the antirock bushings to float it forward another 3/4" further.
.... EDIT ....
I went back outside to study some more and man oh man I am ever so tempted to switch it to Hydraulic.
... Advantaged for me are,...
#1 My assist cylinder is leaking, " GONE "
#2 Rod ends are rusted and trying to seize, " GONE "
#3 Trac bar is short and not set up right, " RE-DO" while switching
#4 Draq link runs into Antirock Link, " GONE "
#5 Bad geometry causing bumpsteer " FIXED"
#6 Killer steering offroad " GOOD "
#7 Left over parts to sell " GOOD "
#8 Hydraulic Steering = clean and simple " GOOD "
...Disadvantages for me...
#1 $$$ " BAD "
#2 Road Mannors, mines already not great " " Could get better
#3 Steering box re-lo is a lot simpler " HUM "
Guess I'll sleep on it, below is kinda where it is heading if I just Roll and Re-lo it.
I am glutten for punishment and going to do the full hydraulic. I have never in my life had a really good driving lifted vehicle so I am going to try this out. Still keeping my stuff that came out of it under the bench for some time to come. I might go as far as laying in the mounts for the relocated steering box while waiting on the other stuff to come in. I can't do much in preperation without parts. I would put the old back on to sell it later especially if i liked the hydraulic, just so i could move it to a new rig later.
