What are the cheapest options? I know about Novak and AA but they're like $500. Also, what is the shortest option? I'm trying to keep my drive train as short as possible.
I also know there is another option to use a stock TH350 - NP208 adapter to mate a Dana 300 t-case to a TH350 by simply bolting up the adaptor and buying the spud shaft that would be required from Novak or AA. What vehicles would have this adapter? Is it worth it to try and search one out?
I was/possibly still am tossing around the idea of putting a th350 behind my 4.6L stroker motor, and adapting it to my d300. I ran into the same thing when I was researching it harder. From what I can gather, the best option is to get the 208 adapter, and I think you either have to re-drill one hole, or elongate one hole, and like you said, get the correct spud shaft. Just look up np208 adapter in yahoo/google. If I remember correctly, there is a "high foot" and a "low foot" one, meaning how tall the bottom part of the adapter is where it bolts to the tranny cross member, and you'd want the "low foot" one. They can be ordered for like 40-70 bucks and then you are off and running. The only other problem (for me) is spending the 600 bucks to mate the chevy tranny to the mopar I6 stroker motor, unless people know a trick for that too...
buy a th350-np208 adaptor most k10 and k20 trucks in the late 70 and 80's had that setup. same adaptor on a 700r4 to a np208 or np231. then you can buy an input shaft from JB conversions for your d300 that is setup for that adaptor. the shaft is $175 but for $250 you get the shaft and a clocking ring too.
Do you think there is any disadvantage to choosing this path as opposed to buying one of the adapters from companies like Novak or Advance Adapters or JB conversions???
well the link i posted is to JB conversions and that how they do a D300 behind a th350 or 700r4.
either novak or AA requires complete disassembly of the trans and a smaller output shaft installed.. which is fine if youi haveing teh trans rebuilt anyway. but i'd trust a input shaft for the case before i trusted a cast output shaft for the trans. or a spud shaft. only disadvantage to the JB kit is it's an inch longer because the factory adaptor is like 2" thick
