I just put a 231/300 in my xj. i also put one in another tj. We both just got the chance to wheel and both are having same issue. The 300 will pop the front out of gear during downhill only. Is this me or is this an issue? Thanks.
This is common for the D300. Some have fixed it by putting in stronger springs into the shifter detent balls. When I rebuilt mine I put in a stronger spring. This could also be caused by worn bearings and shims.
Have you checked around the shifter to see if there is clearance around the body? Sometimes flex or torque pushes the shifter into the body popping it out.
I've checked for clearance. Everything looks to have plenty of room.
Did your heavier spring work? I've even tried to hold shifter in place and it still pops out??
