I have a 02 Tj with a 4.0 and an nv3550 5 speed, not sure what t case goes with that. (one of my questions) and i crawled under it to check out my rear drive shaft and it has what looks like a harmonic balance on the t case side, is that for vibrations? firing pulses? inertia? i was like ok whatever, but when i looked under my buddys 04 tj with the 2.4 (and im not sure what 5 speed that has) his is just a straight shaft with no dampener thing on it. whats up with that?
can i get a drive shaft without the dampener on it? I like that style better.
Less is not always more when referring to your shaft :flipoff2:
Seriously though, you can take it off as long as you don't have a crazy angle going on. They do tend to help a little with the high speed rumble you get if your driveline angle is 12 degrees or more though.
Sometimes its for Diff noise - there are a few things those damper do . Jess
