I would vote using the copper only since it can handle higher temperatures (500F vs 400F). I've not had any experience though using it in a head sealing application. What can it hurt?

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Not a whole lot of excitement going on as of late. Gearing up to media blast her with some crushed glass, do some body work, and finally do the paint. Anyone willing to drive to Yakima to help out with some body work? Lol

On another note. I want to be able to haul my dirtbike in the bed. Any Ideas for tie down points?...

So for now I just hooked the straps through the ends of the tubes.

Bikes fit perfect.

Nice build.

Build a tiedown strip alonge the front edge on the bed at the floor or bolt some d-rings to the bed with backing plates, rivets would ad an old feel look/touch, plys gives you tie down points around the bed.

So I haven't gotten a whole lot done with the Willys lately. I've been wanting to work on the fuel delivery system for a while now. Because of how shallow and wide my tank is, I have a huge problem sucking air whenever I get down to 1/2 a tank. So to help remedy the issue I made this bolt in sump out of stainless that also has a simple baffle network, better than nothing anyways... I also ran 1/2" ID Line from the tank to the modified mechanical lift pump running the comp cams upgraded spring.

When you have access to a laser and part of your building is rented out to a tire store, you can easily make your own gaskets....

Of course the tank is upside-down in this picture.

It's not the prettiest but overall I am pretty impressed with it. I have a little less than 1/4 tank right now and on the drive home I was really hard on it: quick braking, WOT pulls, drifting around corners... I removed the wood out of my bed and ran a clear return line so I could watch for bubbles. I only got aeration one time when I came around a left corner, oversteered, and then jerked back. I feel like I gained some mid/high range power too. I think the 1/2" line is helping to keep the fuel pressure around 55psi (where I have my Watts valve set on the return line). I didn't have my gauge hooked up but before when it was sucking out of a straw, I could get that gauge down to 12psi on a WOT pull.

I didn't see what size o-ring you went with and if you o-ringed just the block or also the head. I originally used .040 wire on my head and it blew after a while and then I o-ringed the block with .050(if my memory serves me correctly), yea both were oringed. Then I used a copper head gasket and coated it with yamabond 6b(5b didn't hold up on one of my tries), but the 6b and copper head gasket was still holding when I sold it. Hopefully yours stays together now, but what I did worked for years. I'm sure they've got it figured out real good now, but this was back in the day when twins and NOS were somewhat new in the diesel world.

.040 stainless wire with .010 protrusion. Stock cummins gasket with arp 425 head studs. The second time I blew it was just because of a lack of retorques; VERY IMPORTANT. I have them torqued down to 135ft/lb and it has been holding great.

I was really surprised to be hearing the tires screeching off the line with an 18psi boosted launch... I think they didn't really prep the track much because it was just diesel night. I'll tell you what, the sump and 1/2" line definitely made a difference; while my transmission is still shifting too late and it starts defueling (if I don't let of the pedal to get it to shift) It is for sure pulling harder in the 3600 to 4000 rpm range where before it would fall off REAL quick.

I did blow out at least 1 or 2 exhaust manifold gaskets on my last race running down a duramax with a 4 second head start. lol

Oh. I forgot to mention how I almost didn't make it to the Diesel Drags the other night... on the way home from work to pick up the wife and head out I pulled a grade at WOT and 85psi for a few seconds and all of a sudden I heard a shotgun go off from under the hood!

I pulled the cab to get the exhaust manifold off today and replace the gaskets that blew out.

And I noticed that the WH1C just must have been pushed too hard. Cracks all the way around the exhaust housing.

12.16! New best, and there's still more there.. I let off completely at 1000 foot attempting to not "break out". Still broke out. I vice gripped the TV cable before this run to try to get it to shift closer to where I want, still not perfect but definitely an improvement. I can feel my single disc converter starting to slip though.

Sorry that the video is dark and a little blurry.

This is what I like about this forum. Even though I don't drag race anything I've got I really enjoy reading your thread and keeping up with your progress. The truck is definitely badass, can't wait to see some vids. And good luck at the races!

Likewise, everything I own is slow but I do enjoy seeing a truck haul ass especially if it's a diesel.

Thanks for following guys!

I come from an off-road background and even have 1 or 2 cherokee build threads on here. So naturally when it came time to build the tow rig, I wanted to post a build thread on here as well.

Thinkin of using this belt to hold the Jerry can.
