1942 new owner

Ive been on pirate for 6 yrs, built 3 toyotas on here and bought one that was already complete....well i needed a change

When i was around 14 i visited my uncle in montana who showed me is newly restored willys jeep....
since then ive always wanted one.
Im 30 now and am smilling ear to ear because of the new toy

I picked these up this weekend.

Title says 1942 willy JP
Its basically a restored 1979 cj rolling running chassis with a 42 cab on top
I dont plan on changing it much, just fix little problems and make a fun cruiser out of it.

Next is a 1945 tub, grill, hood etc.
this will be my next buggy.
i have my spider 9's
Ls1
stak 4 to 1 tcase
14" race runners and all my link stuff.

im actively looking for a trans, full hydro kit etc and the build will start

ill reserve this thread for the 1942's changes, repairs, upgrades and random trips pics.

when the buggy build starts someday ill post seperately

Im out of forest grove, oregon, west of portland by 20 miles
if thats of any importance

It has an amc v8 that came in a 1976 cj...im probably going to leave the vehicle as is for the most part. Just little changes along the way

Main issues i want to fix.
1st. Pvc pipe for cooling system, its a rear radiator
2nd. Seat sliders with better mounts.
3rd. Ad triangulation to cage and ad lap belts.
4th better battery mount
5th clean up wiring...probably ad msd
6th sell the retro mod custom built wheels and buy normal wheels and go to a 37" mtr

-It doesn't quite look like your "third headlight" is original..I assume you are talking about the drivers fender blackout light here. The mount might be, but not the blackout light.

-Most of us on here aren't in the business of restoring, so I'm really not sure what original parts go for. All I know is that you can find a reproduction part for just about anything. Maybe try a few ebay searches?

well i opened the hood yesterday and realized there was no air filter, i happened to have the cheapo air filter on my shelf

i took it for a longer drive and damn the thing has bump steer or something
i decided to do a track bar. i only had a few minutes today to play so this is as far as i got...

you will notice the drag link isnt flat, is that enough to cause bumo steer on these short wheel base vehicles(im used to toyota at 112" or bigger)

making tabs

track bar

crappy welds(its been a while)

finished up the track bar, still drives like crap.
i was looking at the steering column, then there was like 4 ujoint and direction chnges to the steering box and they are all loose and the whole setup is kind of crappy...ill look around for other setups to use as an example.
th

they are getting a little better

Iv'e seen that Jeep somewhere before, not sure where, alot of times the old 42 Jeep bodies were Fords, if it is it will have the Ford "F" or logo on the bolt heads, meaning it was a GPW (Ford), not an MB (Willys) .

Keep that windshield if it's in good shape, or wish you had .

Love old flattys, learned how to drive in a 47 CJ2A

Very cool. keep us posted .

ill use the green seats in my buggy build
