47 Cj2a plans

Ok guys I have a 47 CJ 2A kit body on some kind of frame. The frame looks great solid no major issues that I can see so far. So I guess my question for you guys is I need to get a list together of all the parts I am going to need so I can slowly get them and get this project started.

So far I have a few things / plans:

Engine:
I have a slightly built 4.0 with an aw4 and a 231 t-case this is what I have so this is what I am going to use.

Axles:
I don’t really no what I want to do here. I have a set of 60’s with 4.10 but I think that will be over kill for this project. I also have a D30/35 don’t really want to run the 35 so I could come up with an 8.8. Or I have a line on a set of stock waggy axles that will need to be regarded so I really don’t want to go that route.

Suspension:
Stock YJ spring sprung over of course.

Steering box:
Looks like a waggy or a j-20 is the best but I can find XJs all day long for not much or free.

Wiring:
I have an 89 XJ that I am parting out so I will see if I can use most of the wiring from it.
Also I can still all the brake parts and all the pedals from it also.

Tires:
I guess that depends on axles I would love to run a 40 ltb but I don’t want to hack the crap out of the flatty but I think with the stock YJ spring I might have enough lift I don’t mid trimming a little but I don’t want to get to carried away.
Wheel base I am thinking right around 90 to 95 but that seems why short for 40’s so I might have to step down to something like a 37 or so.
Seats
Those will come later

So this is my plan what do you guys think.

Here is a pic of what I am starting with.

Sell everything you have but the 2a and buy some better fitting parts. The 4.0 is way to long to fit without having the bellhousing in your lap. the aw4 could bolt to the rear axle with no tcase. And use the waggy axles that you don't want to.

Think you're gonna have a tough time squeezing that long-ass 4.0 into that engine compartment without ALOT of work. Thats why V-6s and V-8s are the engines of choice. There's just enough room with a V-8...barely. I'm not saying it can't be done but the I6s I've seen aren't the best.

search through the Willy's stuffa nd you'll see what works and what doesn't.....

Yeah i have searched thru most of the willys stuff on here and your right i don’t think i have ever seen the 4.0 in one i know its a long SOB but I have it laying here and thought i could make it work. But you guys are right. I would have to stretch the nose almost a foot just to make it work.

Sell every thing other than the CJ I don’t know about all that i think i would sell the CJ and but every thing under my Comanche. I guess i will keep gathering parts to make this thing work. I have a front ford D44 out back that i could use it out of a 78/79 so that is an option. Plus my brother-in-law does have a mid 90s ford F150 with a 302 that i could get cheap so that might be a thought.

thanks guys.

As I see it, first you need to decide on the tire size you want to use. That will point you to wich axles you need. Of all the options you named, I would chose the Waggy axles with 36"-37" tires.
As far as the engine issue, everything is possible, depending on the how much you want spend in fabrication (time & money).
As everyone said, a 6L is way to long for the 2A nose...just to give you an idea, my MB has 5.3L V8 and I was forced to stretch the front 5"....

I would consider trading your 6L for a V6 if you dont want a V8

yeah i have looked at your build and about every one else on here. If i would custom make the frame. Kinda like i have seen on here out of 2x4 and not run front fender stretch the hood a foot then just run the front grill with supports this would help me run 40's with just stock YJ springs.

i am not saying a V-6 or V-8 is out of the question hec i have a 2.5 laying on the ground also. I do not really want a 4 banger but it might be an option also still thinking things out just trying to get a plan of attack. I might just sell this thing and buy me a YJ with the 4.0 and call it good slide my 1 tons under it and
