64 Willys Wagon, Dana 44 help

Here is my DD.
Not hardcore by any means but give me time...

56 Willys Delivery Wagon
Ford 302 / T-90 / Dana 18 / Warn OD
Landcruiser rear with 4:11 gears and bald AT's (soon to change)
Landcruiser front center section with Dana 44 outers & discs (4:11 gears) AT tires

Here is my problem: When I shift the t-case into 4-high or 4 lo with the hubs unlocked everything is fine (low speed 2wd). When I lock the hubs and drive in 2wd (snowy roads) everything is fine. When I combine the two I get severe vibration from the front end and a rattling gear grinding sound that looks to be coming from the front end. The front axles are going round and driving but they don't sound happy. The noise lessons somewhat when I apply the gas and really gets bad when I just coast or push in the clutch. Can anyone out their give me some hints as to what is happening and how I can fix it? I have rebuilt engines before and done basic diagnostics but axles are new territory.

Thanks!

Nice panel! Theres a beautiful 2wd panel with windows cut in it on Ebay now that Im thinking of buying for the body to build a daily driver out of this summer if hes still got it.

I am working over a Jeepster now and not sure about the wagon commitment.

Im kinda wanting to put all my 2006 honda ridgeline drive train in it.

Sounds like you have different ratios in the front and back. You need to make sure that they are the same ratio.I wouldnt use 4wd until you know the ratios. a

And agreed that is a nice panel

Thanks! Technically it is a Parkway Conversion (sedan delivery with factory glass). I bought it off of ebay back in July and have been unable to test out the 4wd until now. I'll dbl check my ratios

I drained the fluid in the front diff and it came out silver with chunks of metal (!)
One new R&P later, problem solved.

Here is another: The clutch cable broke yesterday and I pulled it out for a quick replacement - no luck! It has no part #'s and I'm starting to wonder if it is even a clutch cable Local mechanics say it looks more like a parking brake cable (?). Take a look at the pics and see if you can identify it - or tell me where I might get a replacement cable that I can then use with the existing housing.

What do you say PBB?
