Thanks for sharing the build and your nice flattie. I have one of those antique Warn winches and it is indestructable, basic and always works! I replaced the oil in mine with a very light grease that is designed for motor operated valves (Exxon Nepula EBO..i think) The seals always leaked...no more leaks and the winch works fine. They are easy to rebuild if you ever need to, any bearing house can match the parts (things at one time were made to std sizes!). I replaced the worn bushings with caged roller bearings when I rebuilt mine.

Cool, thanks man! I'll watch for that transfer case gear, we'll see!
ssims, it's not a Warn, it's a belleview, and I've been through it as well.

And this came in the mail today

It's still a tad loud, but takes off like a raped ape...
YouTube - Jeeps hard pull

Still gotta figure out why my SM420 is grinding during the shifting process.... and NO! I do not need to double clutch it, it's a synchronized transmission.

Videos from december.

There is a belleview by me for $200, I have been tempted but it looks like it is missing quite a few remote parts.

I run the same winch, and i love it. The line speed is perfect for my granny gear, and its the only winch you can polish to a shine lol

Sammyg, Kick ass build man. Id build an old willys if i wasn't 6ft3.

ID 10 T error?

Have you checked that your slave cylinder is pushing the clutch fork enough? Or if your mechanical still the cable is pulling it enough?

The line speed on mine is pretty fast though? Odd. Mine's polished up as well... Flitz and then some Mothers alum polish.

And thanks. I'm actually knocking on the door of 6'4 and I fit comfortably in mine even without notching the wheel housings

Thanks! If I ever have a son, I'm afraid to see what he comes up with... I'll do with him what my dad did with me, turn em lose in the garage with some old junk and some funding

Yer what hurts? LOL

It does disengage, jack up the rear, leave it in gear and clutch in and you can hear the clutch disc slowly scrap by.
Thinking when I put new seals in it I either forgot to put a needle bearing in (doubt it) or my synchros are flat worn out.

Something else on the "too polish" list:

No idea what YMM they're off of but they fit...Got em from a guy in Cali, then posted on a local forum with the whole look at my new feet blah blah....Another local just removed a set of 4 from his Jeep...The EXACT SAME ones.... I ended up with 9 in total... $200 for the first 5 and free for the 4. Like a sore dick....

Got my Ballistic fairlead installed too

I just love when everything falls apart....

First mock up ended up with full vehicle weight on the springs and a shackle angle of 15*...too much for me. Talked to my buddy and he said burn it in it was fine, glad I went through and checked, I had the shorter front springs on the back

my nek-tek jack stands...Didn't have 2 high enough and had some 14" VW rail rims laying aroudn (Who uses 14" anymore)

At least the to do list is going down

Annnd...Forgot to post, found an air cleaner for it. Free since my vato zone rewards card had all the points on it to cover, and best of all, it fits!

Looking good... Trade for a year? I wouldn't mind mine looking pretty and 'right' for once when I get it back LOL.

Droid X's do take good pictures, just not at night I have not found a phone camera yet that does well in low light.

Off with the old....

On with the new

Root pass on one of the splices tying the new and old frame together, with a sleeve

Single pass on the swing shackle mount

Not bad considering I haven't touched gas shield wire feed in about 8 months....

the jeep looks outstanding i like the vintage reasto mod feel

how do you like the steering brake i am thinking about getting one did you have to run any check valves or any thing to make it work or is it just plumed in line straight off the master into the unit then to the indvidual rear wheels or is there some thing i am missing

No check valves, will be once I go disc brakes in the front. I have a single res master cylinder (dual since both the clutch and brake are in the same master) so I tee off to the front and rear, go into the cab, 1 in 2 out. Bench bleed the bitch and put it all back together, and then through the floor to each rear wheel. I love it. It's not the best at "steering" but I've lifted tires, look, locked, and gassed. It pulled right through, only issue is once said slippign tire bites it wants to pull to that side.

Back to normal

Steering box at a better angle

Single pass wire feed with no starts no stops on the gusset

Little undercut from the tig on the steering box bungs. Still getting better.

Debating putting the day lighters back on or not.
They look correct on the Jeep, but it's just more crap to get broken....

They went back on. No pics of that. Did get all my steering linkages ran, fired it up and put some PS fluid in. 1 quart to fill it up. Steers with one finger now, remember with a Saginaw style steering box, a pump from a 90's Nissan Pathfinder works wonderfully, has a remote resivour, and is compact. I'm sure that the late model GM PS pumps are the same size, but which one is more expensive?
Took it around the block once, couldn't resist. Tracks straight and turns lock to lock now Waiting on my Dana 30, as well as the safety washers since I'm too lazy to machine them.
Not much else to report.
Got some headlight screens on. I like them, they look right on it.

Put the second battery box in. Yeah 2 different designs, blah blah stole it from my VW.

And was in the right place at the right time today. Went to my buddys shop, and there was an SM420 laying on the ground, barely recognizable under the 40 pounds of oil and dirt. He said to throw it in the scrap pile, I ask what year the truck is, he says 67, don't you run a 420 in your Jeep?
Yep.
Back in yer truck, you can have that pig....
Hell yeah! ribbed SM420 for free
