willys question
i have just a couple of questions my uncle gave me a jeep im not sure what kind i have a cj2a and it is the same body style but different. my uncle said its longer than a standard willy s because it was used to carry stretchers and that's why it has no windshield also
here is a picture of my 48 it has a 350/sm465/dana300 with Dana 44's front and rear with 5.38's and 38 tsl,s ![]() now here are the pictures of the jeep he gave me it runs and drives has a 4cylder and twin stick transfer. is this a ford gpw and would it be worth messing with i have to drive 5 hours to pick it up he said there are no major rust holes and fame is in good shape he uses it on his farm ![]() ![]() i want to know if this would be worth messing with i want to build something a little more wild than my 48 its my daily driver any help will be greatly appreciated

Worth more to someone as a restoration. Basically the same setup as your cj2a, so you don't gain anything by chopping it up and starting over.

![]() It doesn't look any longer than any GPW. Don't cut it up though, it's too nice for that. Looks to be a real nice one to restore to original, thats what I vote.

If you are looking to restore it to factory military specs, I may have a few parts to help you out. Fenders, little things here and there, etc. I am in Az though. That one sure is a beauty though, doesn't looked hacked at all, down here that would go for around $1000 bucks.

There's 2 easy ways to identify the body tub.
The toe board gussets will look just like your 2A's if it's a GPW. The toe board gussets will look like child's play if it's a MB. Also the wheel well tool boxs are different between MBs and GPWs. I don't remember the details, but it should be easy to search for.

it's a MB. How can I tell? The tool box lids like you mentioned JPwizard are different. MB's just have flat lids, why GPW's have a imprinted design on them.
1942+ MB and GPW bodys have no difference. Only pieces added later (grab handles etc) have a F stamped on all of them. A 1941 GPW and MB will be different, because in 1942 they both signed a contract with one company to make their steel tubs, but in the early years Willys and Ford made there own. Although ford made very few GPW's because Willys didn't need their help until the demand got too great(1942). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willys_MB#Production As you can see as stated in the article only 4400 GPW's were manufactured, as opposed to the over 300,000 MB's in the 1942 - 1945 time period. A early 1941 GPW will have a ford script printed on the rear panel, same with Willys saying "willys". This was stopped though by the governments opposition.

The motor says willys on it and the tag on the front spring hanger says mb and some other numbers on it the only thing that sucks is whoever put the 3 point lift in the back cut the rear of the body

Ooh, bummer. Well, you can always buy a repair panel. Pictures? Willys engine, believe thats not going to be the MB. Get a picture and we can tell you for sure, might have been swapped in at a later date.

Your everybody's friend in a stock flatty. When I was a kid I "accidentally" drove onto rural private property The owner came running out to tell me how cool my jeep was, swapped contact info, then told me about how he'd like to snap trespassers necks using mannerisms reminiscent of Chris Farley and gave me a friendly wave good bye when he finally calmed down.
I wouldn't give up on identifying your rig to quick. That thing is over 60 years old. It's probably had several owners, at least one of which was very handy. The tool box lids could have been swapped on while still in service or a fix with reproduction parts. The recess for the tool box locks is different on the tub too. I think MB's are round and Fords are square. Not sure though. The motor could still be OEM with a different head swapped on. Anything is possible. Dig deep on ID.
