Question Whats a wagon worth?

I only have experience with jeeps that have been torn down and beat to shit.

A friend of mine just lost a family member and was willed a 53' Willys wagon that is BEAUTIFUL! It's bone stock, from the pics I've seen (NEVER SEEN IN PERSON) the paint APPEARS to be perfect (dark bluish green, interior APPEARS spotless white).

The owner was head of the mechanics department for a big dealership here in town, so you can imagine how it runs.

The question was posed to me if I could look into it to see what these things are worth. What is a good site to find classics info, or perhaps someone here knows or is interested?

Any help would be appreciated. My friend has no need for this Willys, and a quick, FAIR sale would be greatly appreciated by him and his wife.

Thanks

Lee

I think what he's looking for is a ball park of what it would be worth so they don't get screwed by a low-baller or sit on it by asking too much If you've been watching every Willys that has sold on Ebay for the last 3 years, a guy would think you'd have thrown a ball park number out instead of being useless.

This is the useless information being referred to.
You should have just told him to check out other vehicles on Ebay to get an idea.

instead, and by your suggestion....

He puts it on Ebay, goes through the bidding process, and then at the last minute says: "Just kidding!!!" and yanks it

He's not asking Ebay where people cant even spell "winch" or "Cherokee", he's asking here on Pirate where the knowledge base is.

We need more info to give a cost.
Repaired rust out or bone stock are two different prices.
perfect running fully restored or sitting for 20 years are not worth the same.

You can get an idea through E-bay or craigslist as to what it is worth.

More info and pic's will help us give you a cost

Being as specialty a vehicle as it is, i would honestly say that quick sale and fair price will not go together unless you are struck by lightning. Especially in this economy, its a buyers market. If it is in as good a shape as you say it is, you could probably get 8-10K on up from a collector, or someone who is looking for a STOCK CLEAN vehicle. Those buyers are very hard to find though, most people who would be interested in buying it would want to make it a trailable 4x4, so figure they probably wont want to spend over 4k on it, the stock part of the vehicle means nothing to them, they want the body. hope this helps. FWIW, i bought my 60 wagon for 1500, running but with some issues.

Thank you, that is helpful information.

I agree, there should be some pics or further information if the sole purpose of this post was to see what someone here would pay for it. Again, I appologize, but I have not even seen this thing in person.

My original intent was to see if anyone knows of a classic cars website/phone number/company where I could compare values of similar vehicles to give this guy a reasonable value upon receiving specs. I should have been more clear.

If I check egay, I will get such an assortment of nonsense I wouldnt know where to start.

A good friend and a stand up guy lost a family member in a bad way, and I want to help the guy out like he's done for me in the past.

you might try calling an outfit called willysamerica, they are somewhere in sonoma county near the russian river. pretty much all they do is willys, and i'd immagine that they could at least turn you in the direction of someone that would appreciate it. www.willysamerica.com

If it is turn key ready and in the great condition you describe, it should bring in 8 -12k.
Overdrive is very desirable, people really are not liking a 55-60 top speed and the primitive brakes. They really need to be collectors with experience and knowledge of these vehicles.
Pics and more details are needed.
A cherry, over restored pickup brought 12 something last year on Barrett-Jackson.

I don't know if you would find something like that for sale in Hemmings, but it is worth a shot. This is def going to be a collector type vehilce and a quick sale won't bring the true value for you.

Great info guys. Thank you for the insight.

I just talked with my buddy and I'm going to go check it out in person. He said the whole thing is stock except the interior is completely gone thru but tastefully done to look stock. White leather I believe.

He also does not NEED to sell it, so not so much the quick sale i previously stated, just wanting to get rid of it at some time.

He said he was going to put it on Craigslist for 6k, and I quickly told him to hold off.
