Unhappy 2 X 4 Frame Help

I've been searching and searching for dimensions for the frames you guys are building for your willys and i have not been able to make any progress. Eveyone is copying there original frames and extending them but no one gives a lot of detail. The problem I have is i only have a tub and no frame to refrence. Can some one help me get going in the right direction? Im new to the willys but these threads are really inspiring me to park the big blazers and start fabbing on the willys. Thanks for all the good threads you guys.

Are you trying to keep it stock. Or ar you throwing bigger axles in. Original frame width is 29.5"

I made my frame by measuring the tub and set it to the width of the axles, that I planned to use. For the rear frame raised section, I measured from the step up in the tub to where I wanted the rear bumper. On the middle section I measured the tub from the step up to the front tub mounts and then added the amount of stretch I wanted to it (16"). On the front raised section I measured for how far I wanted the front bumper to stick out, and length of leaf springs. I am not at home today but if needed I can give you any measurements you need off my frame. I also put in alot of pictures on my build of how I did my frame and kept it straight.

Here's what I used for help also:

1946CJ2 is making me step it up here. I built a table with a laser to make it perfectly flat. Snapped lines where the frame rails, and crossmembers went, and took all measurements from the table.

Very nice work, im going to start laying everything out for my frame in solidworks using all the great info i have been gathering from you guys this week. I will let you know how everything progresses. Im planning on going with a dana 60 up front and a 14 bolt in the rear. Most likely going to try to stretch it to aprox 104-108" and go with a link set up with 37" or 40" rubber. On the fence with the power plant. Half way done rebuilding a 454 but am leaning to a fuel injected 350. Talk to you guys later.

without stretching the engine bay, I do not think you can pull the distributor on a 350. My 4.3 just fits. The 454 is way to big and heavy. I used bds yj springs and my frame is 12' outside bumper to bumper. my wb is 101", currently.

I agree with the 454. That thing is a tank. Its actually for my 77 blazer. The 4.3 seems like the best way to go with the tight dimensions. I stopped by the local wreckers and 4.3's are everywhere.

I am building a new back half on the jeep. I am stuck with setting the height of the rear leaf spring. What is the best way to establish a level ride height.

I was not for sure on this either, when I built my frame. I just tried to set the shackle angle to the correct angle and figured I could adjust the ride height between the shackle length and spring perch height. I also use 2.5" bds yj springs and used the yj diagram above to help with ey to eye distance.

Frame

It's been awhile since I build mine. I started by cutting 3/8" plywood in to 4" strips. Then built a template, it was nice as I could use C-Clamps to hold together then screwed the plywood once the angles were right. I didnt miter the plywood, simply placed the next leg on top of the previous. This also allowed me to get the angles by marking the intersection of the plywood.

I used 2x4x3/16

Here are a few pics, used wrangler springs...
