1942 junk yard dawg

since my first jeep ride in 1958 in a willys mb i been hooked on jeeps. over the years i have owned to many to count. here is the start of the latest. while sitting in the piles of crap i have with a beer in hand i saw this frame sitting there and thought it had some clean lines to it, its boxed an its free. its a 76 scout 2. its not a willys but it was free.

here's a pic of my cruzer. 51 m38 streched 24" to fit a cj6 frame. this is what you get to after building the early hammer trails in an 80" wb flattie.

Awesome rig! I really like how you used parts from different rigs to make a killer ride.

the rear 44 has been bent on the mojave limo for a couple years and has had a lot to do with how little i have used it recently. to many one legged wheel hops i guess. i finialy got all the parts and jig togather to build a new one. since it is a custom built everything had to be cut and welded to fix it so i could reuse my moser axles again. these axles have been in this jeep since 1995 and the splines are arrow straight which is amazing considering how bad this thing has been beat on over the years. while i was at it i added a anti wrap bar since i have destroyed several sets of springs hauling heavy loads up trails for erosion control projects. having the biggest moter is not always a good thing

new project in the shop i'm doing for a friend, 1942 willys MB #4089. second owner since the marine corp let it go in the 50's. they must have used it for target practice because its got a butt load of bullet holes to fill. the bondo was so thick the axe bracket was covered over plans are for the original flat 4 with a trans and t case from a m38a1 a 25 front and a 23 full float with a posi in the rear the only rear changes i'm making is 11 brakes and a 2 stage master. the frame was completly damage free. the hardest its going to work from now on is hauling the grand kids and the jet ski to the boat ramp

What astrovan springs did you use ? And do you happen to remember the distance between the frame and axle when it was on its own weight?

the springs are from a ford aero star. the one that looks looks a shoe box that had one end squished. ride hite front is 11" back is 12 1/2. weight is 4600lb. don't know the bias. on a 20 degree ramp it hit 1700(top) pulled a tire at 1550

my hood already had a hole in it when i got it, it was artistic reuse

7" channel 4' with 6" steel casters, cross bars are 2x1/4 wall 10' x 32" with 2 1/2 sliders to mount shit to. you can build a whloe jeep up there. going to be at eureka town site outside of sliverton on the 20th for a couple weeks, i would like to hook up and drool on your fenders i mean check out your sheet metal work

thank you. their a product of 50 years of trial and error, hacking up over a hundred jeeps. watching what works and what didn't. learning from the mistakes of others and waiting till i had the right parts to make things work. my junk ain't car show quality but it works. well sometimes. the big bitch blew the transfer case skyhi last weekend trying to bust a new rock pile, thank god it was close to a getout by the way your stuff looking good to

Have a safe drive. It's in the high 80s in Durango and Silverton will probably be about that this weekend. Everyone is pretty nervous about fires right now. There are some active fire restrictions in effect.

i have never welded so many holes in my life in the same jeep, 300+ and almost as many still to go. nearly all the spot welds were blow out and had to be drilled and rewelded. the original gas tank area was removed because it was rotted away and replaced to fit a 3a tank that a lot cheaper buy. the tank will have the same style under seat fill as the original. most likely make my own so everything is where i want it. the rear was torched out for god only knows why. thats the mess i'm working on today. its a real challenge renovating 70 years of abuse and make it look semi straight
