The hammers after KOH

We are wanting to stay and wherl the week after KOH. Is anybody else planning this? Last year the place emptied out and we were pretty much the only ones around. We wouldn't mind hooking up with some like-minded people

I was kinda pondering doing that too - last year, we stayed until sunday and wheeled saturday & sunday morning a bit. Much less activity then vs. the prior weekend even (when we ran across several folks pre-running ). We also spent time up at Cougar Buttes which was mostly empty.

We must have passed at some point. By Sunday night there was only three parties left in Hammertown. We had the trails all to ourselves. What were u hoping to wheel?

I guess it depends on who is around and what they are up for - I'm a TJ on 37s so I can't really do some of the hard core buggy trails, but figured maybe:

Clawhammer
Big Johnson
Aftershock
etc

type stuff...

If you do stay after KOH, do me a favor and pick up at least 1 extra bag of trash. A lot of the people at KOH think their mom is going come out and clean the desert after they leave, so they forget to clean up after themselves!

+1

We roamed around the area above Gate 4 last year and picked up lots of other folks trash (like 3+ contractor bags worth). And for reference, I'm nobody's mom :-) ... no matter when you leave, clean up your area.

Buddy of mine used to live about an hour away. He used to score beer and camping supplies from people who flew in. I guess some people figured it's cheaper to fly, rent a vehicle and buy the basic camping stuff they need, then fly home , instead of driving and bringing all thier shit.

We thought about the same thing and also instead of going to KOH we were going to go to Ocotillo for that weekend since everyone was going to be in JV. We ended up not doing either since our wives were both prego.

Dave and his crew spend a lot of effort to try to make it cleaner than when they got there weeks ago......due to idiots who can't clean up after themselves.

it's a shame people leave their trash out there. You'd think everyone out there would be off-road enthusiasts, knowing that trashing up areas is a good way to get those areas closed!

On Saturday at the lunch for the KOH Experience with Tony, Dave Cole did bring up the issue of trash and noted that his experience had generally been good with long term offroaders, but the newer generation of folks coming to KOH (I think he was referring to the weekend UTV crowd) seems like they need guidance on good behaviour.

At least around the area we camped in, most folks seem to have cleaned up pretty well. I only came back with 2 1/2 medium sized trash bags this year, instead of the 2 huge contractor bags I collected last year. Still there were melted bottles and aluminum cans in fire pit, tho less of it. I did see a lot more trash on the way out sunday afternoon out in the suburbs. And along 247 it looked like someone who had collected trash had several bags fly off their trailer so it spewed all along the roadside (unfortunately there was no place for me to pull over the RV + trailer to pick it up).

The 8 Canadian rigs we had in a row had a heaped pickup truck box of garbage we were loading into our trailers to haul out when the Fly-N-Hi team came by with a flat deck trailer and were collecting all the garbage from the race teams on Saturday afternoon.

VERY much appreciated guys, saved us dragging it 30hrs home!
