Amazing!!!!
The off road industries get vilified by the animal activists for the possibility of killing a desert tortoise, yet the Government move 1500 tortoises and not a peep out animal activists! They are kicking the tortoises out to the curb like an evil new landlord. Any bets that in the next few years "Live Ammunition" will be found out in Johnson valley and the whole area gets shut down for good?

This was something I worried about too. Just keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't.

I can guarantee with the amount of craters there, there is at least a couple of live ones buried that just didn't detonate if those are bomb craters and not demolition craters..
If they truly are bomb craters, then yes, UXO "Unexploded Ordnance" WILL be found.

I'm sure if you dug down into the lakebed, you'd find ordinance from WW-II era training.

Wrt the tortoise relocation, the Center For Biological Diversity sued over a similar relocation program at Fort Irwin years ago and got it suspended. They filed an intent to sue last year about this one. I would expect them to pursue it (unless they got paid off by the govt - again). The stupid thing is with the relocation programs, is a majority of the tortoises die after relocation. Maybe they could do the math better and figure out that the tortoises might fare better just staying where they are instead :-/
