thinking about dragging pops out for turkey day,
doubt he will be happy in a tent so whats the nearest?

Im gonna say Yucca Valley would be your best bet, Lucerne has a place or two, but I think you will find more accomidations in Yucca Valley.

Thats what we did this time last year over there. We rented 2 of them. The drive back to Yucca or Lucerne is a real PITA if you dont stay on the lakebed.

There is a Super 8 Motel in Yucca that we stayed in for ARCA in 2001. Decent and reasonable then.

X3 on Yucca. We stayed at the place in Lucerne a couple of years ago. It was a dump.
