West JV area, Bullfrog Trail

Out on the Western edge of the JV area between Camp Rock rd and Cougar Buttes lies some nice granite play areas. It is w/in this area that a few folks created the Bullfrog trail. This is a great area to play in and not as dificult as the Hammers trails areas. Many people I have talked to do not think they have enough rig to run the JV area so they go elsewhere. It is areas like this that could get more people out to play in JV and allow more people to feel connected to the area giving them the will to fight for it. (Ok, maybe many of the readers here know about the area, but many that don't wheel JV have no idea other trails exist out there)

Man what a Beautiful day out in the Johnson Valley area. Temps were in the low 80's and not a cloud in the sky. We had 8 rigs, 6 TJ's and the two SFA KJ's. The trail was great, just the right mix of difficulty and great desert scenery to keep it interesting and fun. All the rigs finished the day w/ just the usual scrapes and minor bruises.
Anyhow, pics tell the rest of the story so here they are:

Fun times!

And more...

Possibly not quite as exciting as otehr pics you will see in here but what a great area to wheel. Lookiing forward to finding other "easier" trails to play on out there. (i see there are a few out near the Hammers area, cool deal.)

Good to see

JV is not just for the hardcore rigs, it can appeal to just about anyone.

I don't currently have GPS info and I can't get down detailed enough to map it on google but here is what I have for now.

We drive in off of Camp Rock rd at Comet Rd which is at the pistachio farm, from there we head due East until the trail starts curving North near the rocky areas.

I have it marked on google earth but only near the general vicinity.
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en...38452&t=h&z=15
It will be tough to find by this info since it is a large area and the trails leading in go all over the place.

There is a group from the Bear Valley 4 Wheelers heading out there on Jan. 19th. and possibly another run in December just not sure on a date yet. Plans are to nail down GPS info, etc. on the next runs and possibly add to the trail.
I will update w/ any more info I can get.

Ya, we play there too:

Good place for tug-o-war

Some good single track trails to play on as well

I'm not flopped, it's just a cool technique for following single tracks

Few more:

Got more, but that's more than enough for now. But yes, It is a great place to bring the not so capable wheelers as well and they don't need to feel so intimidated by the trad Hammer trails. Cougar Buttes is much prettier for sure, and makes for better camping all around. Easy to stay out of the wind too.

It's a good reason to come out...2 wheels, 3 wheels, 4 wheels, all getting together for the right kind of cause.

Arrow Bullfrog Trail

Spent Thanksgiving at Cougar Butte. We went out found the Bullfrog trail. Wanted to comment on how nice the trail was marked. We had six rigs, and it took us about three hours to do. Real nice challenges. Kept us on are toes. One other comment. The goggle earth location is a little off. The trail starts about 1 1/2 miles east of where the goggle earth map spots you. Drive around, and you will be rewarded with nice half day of wheeling.. CW
