Shooting in JV
Hey everyone,
just a general question. I know it is legal to shoot shotguns in JV according to BLM, but is it acceptable? Friend recently asked me and I don't think I had thought about it before, so thought that I would ask here and see what everyone thought. If this has been asked before, I apologize, couldn't find that post. Thanks. |

We have.
Just stay away from the populous and use your head, and you'll be fine.

Not really, it's more sad when you have to spend a couple hours picking up shotgun shells, broken bottles, and the pieces from a case of clay targets while trying not to step in the big wet spot from the idiots dumping their black water tanks.

I could be wrong, but I believe solid projectiles are illegal in that area.
So that just leaves shot-guns and Sobe-Bombs.

Yep, BLM site says Shot-Guns Only. And in designated areas.
See Map More BLM info And you can thank the designated as shotgun-only by a San Bernardino County Ordinance.

I live in Barstow... The safest bet, if you want to shoot pistols and rifles, is to go north of Barstow. We go north east of the drive-in on hwy. 58. Shoot against one of the mountains and not accross the open desert. And pick up your brass and targets... PLEEEEASE. There are so many slobs out there that are ruining our desert its disgusting.

Bump.... am I going to be able to get away from people during the week to have some shooting fun or is it just not going to be worth it during KOH week?

With that said, With the crowds that will be out there, I would hope people would have the brains not to be shooting anything. I'm sure if some ass-hat decides they want to shoot around people, there would be action taken. The desert is a big place. ![]()

Use your head and have fun. There will be people everywhere. Just make sure you go way off the beaten path and hope a ranger doesn't happen to see you shooting anything except a shotgun.

Come on man...use your head! If you insist on shooting, take a long drive far away from anything KOH related.
And remember, it's shotgun ONLY...anywhere in the BLM's OHV area. And if the KOH Program is says "No Shooting the Week of the Event" ...show some love

I talked to BLM. They don't have control of someone shooting out there. Yes shot guns only, but if you want to head north on 247 there are a few areas on the east side that are open to shoot.

Stoddard wells OHV and Jonshon Valley shotguns only. I know i dont like riding when someones shooting HP rifles in the area. If the BLM catches ya shooting anything other than shotguns bye bye gun.

Whoa guys... my hands are in the air!
LOL No guns are coming, I was just wondering about the statement. I was aware of the shotguns only from research for prior trips for recreation. Thanks!
