do those things have mega travel or something? I have seen those used for changing a tire on an extreme travel axel, and also on military for air assault. (that's where you lift the truck with a helicopter to transport).

They are limiting straps. They limit the axel from falling to far when the Volvo flies through the air. This keeps the brake lines and the drive lines happy.
