Am I bling bling yet?
So, I got tired of my e brake.
Hydraulic actuation. are we bling yet? This is the first new part I've ever put on the rover. I'm getting weak. Nice Dynalite Wilwood caliper covered in mud. Want the stresses in that bad boy, there bub? Just delivered a 1 hour college presentation on this setup. Full design and calculations, design criteria, etc etc... More pics... I need bigger rubber. 36s don't fill up the wheel wells anymore. Name those flares... Next step? Rear leafs up front, double shackles, move axle BACK 3", divorce mounted T case and... diesel!

dammit, was it really that easy? Yep, Jeep parts on a rover. And there wasn't any explosions or spontaneous combustion when I put the both of them together.

I agree with Michael. TJ flares. I almost mounted some CJ flares on my truck, but they were too small for my modified wheel arches. Baby Jeeps!!
That e-brake is really sweet. Now if someone would just figure out how to mount the Wilwood brakes on all four corners I could get one of them there 3,000:1 crawl ratios and be able to stop. Big Bling Bling!!

Hey no worries! I have TJ stainless filler necks on the CrewCab and a Jeep Grand Cherokee air intake elbow!
Hmmm...as with the lights thread, there are MANY parts on a Rover that are used by other makes, visa versa too. No other car in the world uses 12 guage red wire....for example.

LWG! I HAVE run the Wilwoods on the front axle of my '90 RR!
They're now sitting on the bench, along with all the other brake parts looking for a nice warm home. Someone that will treat them right, buy them presents now and then and appreciate their blingie-ness. That person could be you!

Mike,
Did those Wilwoods stop better? I'm still looking for a good way to stop my 37s since my 3/8" thick steel rims are so darn heavy that it's killing my brakes. -John

I think the Rover calipers are more than adequate IMO. The Wilwoods, although nice, didn't seem to cover the entire depth of the rotor with the pad the way the LR caliper did.
IMO, you are better off looking into a different assist system, and/or doing dual calipers.

Parking disc brake
I always felt the LR drum parking brake was very effective. I had a buddy with a TJ that had a willwood setup and it wouldnt hold as well . . . Cooper tried to tell me the drum was better and I didnt believe it till I saw it in person. Looks nice though.
LWG - I have the willwoods on the front too, cant get the fuckers to stop squeaking tried several different pad compounds. They stop OK, but I need to bleed it again and rework the caliper mount. . . -Regards -Ike

Bah! Rovers don't go fast enough to need good brakes! Especially Series trucks.
Last weekend, it took us seven hours to drive nine miles and I never took the truck out of lo-lock, even when it was on its side. Peace, Paul

No, the steering box transfer is still on-going-I bent my gear puller all to hell trying to pull the arm. The check is in the mail and I have given upon anyone in this behemoth company helping us find a seat for your truck.
OK, now that I've caught my breath I can get on with hi-jacking this thread. Packing the truck to head to Kentucky to go wheeling, I topped off the power steering just to find the fluid pouring out the pinion seal as quickly as I could pour it in-word! Seriously, it was literally flowing out as fast as I couldpour it in and we know what SWMBO would have to say if I said we couldn't go on our trip. Am I the only one who goes wheeling with a spare power steering gearbox in the back of his truck? Lucas tranny stop-leak rocks. I figured worst-case scenario I could find a backwoods garage and walk them through swapping the box. When I rolled the truck on its side, the spare box did as much, if not more damage than the trails. Yes, I know it is unsafe to have unsecured cargo while wheeling, I had no intentions of driving trails as rough as we ended up running. When we came out of the trail, we encountered an almost new Nissan truck abandoned, stuck in a rut. While we were standing aorund looking ofr the driver a fellow drives up on a motorcycle and seeing my Rovers North shirt asks if the Disco is mine. He proceeds to inform me he has a 109 in the gorge and then he says "I AM AN ENTHUSIAST!". Do you know him Ike? Peace, Paul

Haaaaaaadro... boost! My hydroboosted rangie axles stop with 36s. Even with another 88 in tow, and a spare engine in the 88, and my ton o' junk onboard. Calipers probably won't improve your braking performance, and the girling calipers are already the shiznit. They are pretty good factory stock. The wilwoods might actually make things worse! Mike, got part #s for the Wilwood stuff? What's needed to bolt it up?

You need two bolts to bolt it up. Seriously, that's it. They go right on. No shimming, no spacers, no brackets. Do a search for ABS or something and you'll see pics of my calipers installed. Sorry I don't have any part no's.

I know of two 109s that Ike hasn't owned (well OK, most likely).
Ike knows of whom I speak... Peace, Paul
