Directions for installing a RTE bodylift for a 89 RRC

Ok, so I just got the RTE body lift in the mail, bought it used, and it doesn't have directions or a parts list with it.

I know a lot of you on here have installed this 2" bodylift kit, and was wondering if there are online instructions for it, or if someone would be nice enough to go through the parts that should be included with the kit, and just give me a quick run through of where everything goes on the truck...

I'll tell you what I have in front of me (using my best pictionary descriptions), and would appreciate it if someone would just say where on the truck the part/s go, and if I'm missing something, or if it's all here:

1) 10x 2" silver-circular lift blocks w/holes in center (each is equal in size)

2) 10x approx 10" long bronzish colored hex top-bolts

3) 4x approx 10" (white part is approx 5", and the bolt part is another 5", white (radius arm-looking) with hole in them-with silver screw/threaded ends

4) 4x cotter pins

5) 2x 2" circular metallic colored parts...these 2 parts look like a skinnier version of the spacer itself, but 3/4 of the way up get skinnier and go on for another 1/4"

6) 1x 1.5" dark metallic colored circular part...this piece has what appear to be 2 self tapped screws...and it looks like a skinnier version of the spacers, but in a darker metal

7) 1x 2" circular metallic colored part...this part looks like the one's i described in part 5, but at the end has a piece which is threaded

The help is truly appreciated, since I want to have this lift on the truck ASAP!!!!
Thanks,
Ben ziskind

1) 10x 2" silver-circular lift blocks w/holes in center (each is equal in size)

These are your lift blocks

2) 10x approx 10" long bronzish colored hex top-bolts

These are the new body mount bolts

3) 4x approx 10" (white part is approx 5", and the bolt part is another 5", white (radius arm-looking) with hole in them-with silver screw/threaded ends

These are the seatbelt mount extensions

4) 4x cotter pins

These are used with the above

5) 2x 2" circular metallic colored parts...these 2 parts look like a skinnier version of the spacer itself, but 3/4 of the way up get skinnier and go on for another 1/4"

Radiator mount extenders

6) 1x 1.5" dark metallic colored circular part...this piece has what appear to be 2 self tapped screws...and it looks like a skinnier version of the spacers, but in a darker metal

Steering shaft extension collar

7) 1x 2" circular metallic colored part...this part looks like the one's i described in part 5, but at the end has a piece which is threaded

Transfer case lever extender

Looks like you got it all... I'll run down the install from memory, but before I start, let me tell you that it is a pain, and you will need help.

Start by loosening all the body mount bolts. You will need to pull up the carpet and foam liner in the front, and remove the trim on the rear bumper to do this. Remove the nuts on one side. Disconnect your airbox hose, remove the steering shaft. Remove the T-case shifter. Loosen the clamp on the gas filler. Unbolt the two top radiator brackets. Climb under the truck and remove the existing seat belt supports (they bolt between the floor and the frame). Jack up the side of the truck on which you removed the nuts. Remove the existing body mount bolts. One by one, slide in the lift blocks, slip in the bolts, and finger tighten the nuts. Repeat for other side. Install the new seat belt supports. Tighten all the body mount bolts. Install the shifter extension. Hammer the radiator supports onto the pegs on the radiator, and bolt the brackets back on.

Then, the steering shaft: If yours is aluminum, the collar should have been aluminum also, the shaft will need to be cut, inserted into the collar, set screws tightened and tig welded. If everything is steel, you can mig weld it.I believe it has to be extended 3/4", but you should really call RT and verify this. reinstall the steering shaft, and you're done.

sounds like fun, no?

Sounds about right

I just did one of these on a Disco and sound like Alex covered all the bases. Feel free to contact me off line if you need any more moral support.

David.

No one as mentioned this, but unless you have air tools, the day before you do the install blast all the bolts with lots of PB blaster, it'll make things much easier.

Air tools are a must! If you don't have them plan on being there all day.

Damn....Darkstar that is a solid reply. Have you just done one of these? Sounds like you designed the kit!

wow

WOW!!!!!

Dark Star, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to be doing this install at a friends garage, so I will have air-tools (thank god!!!!!)
The friend who owns the shop (and will be doing most of the work) has done NUMEROUS suspension and body lifts on other vehicles, but never on a Range Rover...Is this install similar to other vehicles, or are we talking about an entirely different animal here???

Also, does the RTE body lift, when purchased new, come with step by step directions (pictures and tips)???
And do you think that if I call RTE, they would be able to email/fax/mail me a copy if it does???

Once again, THANK YOU for the help!!!!!

Ben

I did the install on my truck last spring. The kit came with instructions, but they weren't great. Pictures were pretty hard to make out, it looked like a copy of a copy of a copy. Just take your time and you will be OK. I would budget 6-8 hours for a first time install with two people and air tools.

1 more thing

Forgot to ask, but should I remove the rear bumper/end caps before I do the install???

I already took off the front bumper/air-dam/brushgard/endcaps....

And with the air tools, and a competant mechanic, just how long should the install take????

Thanks,
Ben
