I need Rover Advice - Pirate4x4.Com : 4x4 and Off-Road Forum

I am new to Rovers and am trying to buy a '90 to '93 model to play with and do some light wheeling with. I don't know what the weak spots are on those year models. I know about the air bag suspensions and about the cruise control problems but that is it. What do I need to look for as far as a problem spot goes? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, what about all these special editions like the Hunter or the Great Divide?

the viscous center diff isnt the greatest thing off road, as it locks and unlocks at will and sometimes not at the greatest time. the earlier LT230 transfer cases were far better off road, and are much cheaper to fix. look for rust in the sills and the footwells, a usual trouble spot. the airbag suspension can be converted back to coil springs for a few hundred bucks, and if you are going to be wheeling it, even mildly, it is a good upgrade, as there are no lift kits available for the airbag suspensions.

I think you would be better off getting a 94-95 disco. The T/C and 24 spline vs the 10 spilne axles are a much better starting point. There has been a few 94-95 discos on e-bay for 6-8k

Aren't the 94 to 95 Discos prone to problems with the electrical system?

Your right, for a little bit more I can get a 4 to 5 year newer Disco. That's not a bad deal.
