I think you can buy blueprints for like $5 out of the back of Popular Science. Last time I saw them they were right next to the hovercraft and autogyro ads.

Yeh, but then I hear tell a crewcab Ford/Chevy/Dodge pickup with a gemtop canopy (or even a custom chuckwagon box) is hella cheaper than building a rover ice cream truck!!

Silly newby.

Sorry if I stirred all the newbies up to give you problems OS. That is a great source of fuel tanks you showed us. How do you get such good prices on these fuel cells. And where can we buy them direct.
I have not seen these at my local ACE hardware, who is a listed vendor.

In awe of our amazing moderators shopping skills

I was going to build a fuel cell because of cost and odd size. By the time I priced the sending unit, fittings, filler, foam, material(including baffles) the price was over $200. I got a really nice aluminum 21 gallon fuel cell from Summit with Foam and sending unit shipped to my door for less than $300.

My dad also looked into it. For his wagon it would have been even more to make. He found a shop that built him a really nice 35 gallon tank that fit like a dream for $250.

Time is money, and as has been said on this board before, its cheaper to do it right the first time than to do it twice.

Adam, OS is right West Marine is essential for many things!

I picked up a 26 gallon aluminum tank
think this one:

http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...roductId=19934

The length is just under the width between the fender-wells in back of a series or defender!
...just need to cut off those two bolt-down brackets, and come up with a different cradle mount, I am planning on placing fuel-proof closed call foam between it and sides/bottom of rear tun for bit of shock relief.
if your tig welding skills are up to it, I'd say go ahead, but from what I have heard, it is hard to weld up a good safe fuel-cell/tank with arc/mig/gas...unless you are really goooooooooooooooooooooood! ymmv.
