Swapping Toyota 3rd member into Discovery?

I heard from a guy that it is a direct swap from a Toyota 3rd member into a Land Rover axle. If this is true, I am going to try and get my hands on some to swap in with like some 3.73 gears.

I heard that you have to drill all new holes and get custom made axles but am not sure. I have a rear 3rd from and 89 Fj-62 if you want it. $50

I heard that there is a search function on pirate4x4!!!

If you are sticking with 3.XX gear ratios, why even bother. You likely dont wheel the truck very hard at all, tus you most likely wont break anything.

Sounds likel you guys need to go to the DISCO web

Toy centres fit YES.

Housing needs to be redilled and tapped to suit the tot centre.

Rear:
spindles ned to be bored out aprox 20 thou.
new axles to suit inc drive flanges.

Front:
spindles ned to be bored out.
new inner axles.

CV:
options.
rover.
110 rover.
Toy std.
toy longfield/profield.
New longfield chromo in either 27/30 spline.

once cv type is decided then spindle has to be modded to suit inc fiting of new bush.

pinion flanges ned to be machined to suit rover drive shaft.

easy as.

Michael.

Yeah...

Just what michael said - did that 2 weeks ago...

If your sticking with <32" rubber, don't go through the hassle...the rear FJ62 3rd won't do.

You'd best need a hi-pinion FJ80 front and a rear 4Runner V6 3rd.

Its amazing how strong this set-up is.

I very nearly went down this path, but JacMac's manufacture time didn't correspond with my breakage. Do you think for the sake of simplicity that the 1.24" Disco Maxi/JacMac axles have the strength to deal with Hilux 3rd's, obviously with the locker made to suit?

The Hi-lux 3rd, with a decent R&P ratio, is pretty strong and should sustain tyres up to 38" (depending on power and weight) - The 1.24" aftermarket axles are pretty strong and they will become you weak link (rear) as opposed to the Rover R&P should you go that route.
The kind of locker (selectable, spool, automatic, LSD) will also reflect axle life.

Dunno where you got that, but its supposed to be limB raisers - as in tree limb raisers (those "cool" cables that go from the roofrck to the bumper - nice, but they weigh 300g, so its an issue)
