I run a Rancho. Homemade D90 style mount for my Disco. It's a Rancho 5404 stablizer from Summit for 32.00

The ones that work with the rovertym kit are nice and damp well.

Whats the problem? If you front end is loose you could need to tighten the swivel balls.

Just curious

The reason I ask is because I busted mine up pretty bad at Tellico and I need to replace it. The truck drove like a boat before so I was wondering if anybody had tried other dampners. I am looking for one that is more heavy duty than the Old Man Emu. I didn't know if there were other brands out there that would fit, and or that have been tried. I am looking for the most HD one for around a hundred bucks. I think the OME was around $55.
What type does RTE use? Is it Fox?
Has anybody considered adding a mount for a second stablizer? If so, owuld you reverse the installation of it?
I am looking to upgrade to 35"s or 36"'s but I am not ready to trailor the rig yet, so steering on and off road are still important.
Thanks for the help!

Ryan,

Its a NAPA damper for an F350 or somethign. its like $25 but you need the relocation kit ($95) for it and it is usually set to work with the HD drag link and track rod ($225). Once you are done though you will never break ny of it ever again.

You can mount a second (or just relocate) the damper up in front like on D90s. John's @ RTE kit is the best but you can cheap bastard it with some rancho parts and a piece of 2"x 3/8" flat stock.

No matter how heavy duty of a damper you get, the casing will dent if hit hard. You need a skid plate to keep it safe, especially if you are buying a high dollar damper. Sounds like your rig hasn't fully recovered from that trip up lower 2 eh Ryan!

Tellico recovery

That Tellico trip really set me back. I didn't think to check the left CV and axles since the right one was broken. I've never broke both of them at the same time. I was able to drive home with no problems. A lil later I was driving home from the power train shop where I was picking up new U joints. You see, I thought it was old U joints that was causing those funny noises. It ends up that about an inch of the axle broke off on the diff side. It was rattling around and finally fell into the bottom of the diff. Then it met Mr. Ring & Pinion. It also sheared two carrier bolts in half.
Bill D. is putting a new R & P back in the housing and he is double checking my detroit. I should have it first of March.
Oh yeah, in minor news, I still can't roll up my drivers side window. The door is caved in too far and the window is down so I can get to the sheet metal.

So, I heard you got some 35's? What kind did you go with?
Cheers,
Ryan93LWB

Did you prefer to go up to a 35" or did you really want to stay at 33"? Did you measure to the top of the lug or the base?

There is an area less than 30 mins from me called Gardendale. I have never been there but I here it is as tough as Tellico. I know they hold a rock crawling contest there once a year along with some events. It's about two hours west of Atlanta. Would you be interested in checking it out?

Dude-

I wanted the MT/Rs but the 37 R15 MT/Rs(which measure more like 36) aren't easy to get, none new, and the R17s I would have to get new wheels on top of the friggin $400 price tag per tire!

I'm interested, but if it is as gnarly as Tellico I'm suprised there hasn't been more publicity on it.

$400 per tire?!!!! That is insane! I think when I get to that point, I might have to look @ Super Swampers instead.
I've seen Gardendale, AL mentioned in several off road mags. I think they host like two or three events a year. I can go and check it out, but I need to get up and running first. I'll keep you informed. Have you been anywhere since Tellico? I've got some pretty good video of us on Lower 2.

Yes I can make you a copy. I just need to find it, then go to some place that can transfer it from a camera tape to a VHS. Or od you prefer to have it on CD?
