Rebuilding an R380- G*d d**m flaming POS!
Ok so there is NO way I am getting around using some of the special tools.
Anyone attempted this? It looks like I might have a shot at either finding the tools through the dealer or just changing the mainshaft and layshaft bearings if I can find the oil seal puller. I don't know exactly what is wrong with the tranny, but the splines on the output are A-Okay so what are my other likely canidates? It was pulled when relatively new and replaced (it is out of a 300Tdi 110, date stamped late 98 and was pulled in 99). It spins and shifts ok (not installed so this means little) Which synchros usually go bad? Which bearings should I look at as being a possible issue? My main concern at this point is the oil seal and collar around the output. Aparantly this is a PITA and I don't have the tool to pull it. What would you do to rebuild it? Ron
