Info on 94 D 90
I am not new to Land Rover's....the first wheelin I did was in a 75 Range Rover that was imported by my father. I have however been away from them for years and need some information from you guy/gals that use them on a day to day basis. I am looking to buy my lady a cherry 94 D 90 with 28K on it and the 5 speed (the only offered that year). It has a nice soft top and it has never been wheeled. What are the issues and problems that I need to be aware of? What should I look for before I buy? It is going to be a daily driver with minimal off road use, but it had to be reliable and get her to work every day. Does the heat work well....how about the air? And finally what is a good price for a mint 94 with 28,000 miles? Thanks for all you input and good wheelin in the new year.

Working dog??
Buddy you need your head checked if you think a D-90 is a "working dog"...
Heck I'm English and lived there for a big part of my life and still know that you go and buy a Toyota if you want a "working dog". The only reason the Brits use them as "working dogs" is because they are the local rig there. Those D-90 axles hold up real good with a warmed up motor and 35's.. In the good old Unites States where one has a choice the "working dog" of choice would be anything but a Rover Don't have anything against them mate, they are ok trucks when left stock but anyone who has wheeled hard knows that is not the vehicle to purchase. Now if you got some cash to spend and want to buy the woman something nice/unique it's another story. So as I asked above can anyone give me some good advice based on their ownership of a D-90.

--------------------------------------------------------- Methinks you have found a '94 already so i won't mention www.LRX.com which IMHO is the best place to find one (and compare asking prices)...the US only got D-90's in '94, 95 and '97...only the '97's are automatic but that brings up the issues of the original LT-77 five speed in the '94's and early '95's which were replaced under warranty at times with the R-380 which is a better transmission all round...so you might check if this was done when the vehicle was new...the '94's have different features and were a bit more primitive...the tail lights are square instead of round...air conditioning was dealer installed and very rare to have this originally done...some air installs were hatchet jobs...it adds about a grand to the selling price if it's factory...also the soft-tops weren't very good and you probably will opt for a www.badgercoachworks.com refit..an Arles Blue ST will command a higher price because that was the only year it was offered that way...Problems are the same with any LR..rust, rust and the electrical system. Be sure to check the Vin against the chart here to make sure it's a genuine item: http://www.lrfaq.org/Defender/FAQ.De...nder_VINs.html Low miles on a LR are not all they are cracked up to be...sitting idle a LR will develop sealing problems as the acids in the fluids eat away the seals, also it's good to run it once a week or so to keep the grease greasy...so to speak ...make sure you examine any service records.. '94 Defender 90: Each is supposed to have a number stamped on a plate on the right rear panel between 1 and about 3149. Four were brought in specially with non-standard colors and at least one didn't have it's number stamped on it. Numbers 1 to 10 were marked as LRNA/1 to LRNA/10 (exception #8 was just #8). A few numbers were never issued. * Land Rover North America reports 1,468 sold in 1994, 1,571 sold in 1995 (though about 70 were D90 Station Wagons), giving a total of 2,969. * LRNA imported the following D90s 1994: 1943 US 1994: 87 Canadian 1995: 1191 US Total: 3221 * Standard colors were Portifino Red, Conniston Green, Beluga Black, Alpine White, AA yellow and (1994 only) Arles Blue. * In 1994 there were only 100 Beluga Black models all had leather Seats, A-Bar, Running Boards, rear seat and surrey top as standard features * 47 1994 Soft Tops were converted to prototype Station Wagon models. Reportedly at least 37 were Coniston Green, 2 Arles Blue and 1 Alpine White. All 47 have VINs between (and including) RA939334 and RA945393. In January 2002 LRNA stated that there were 65 of these and all were Coniston Green. * 1994 MSRP was $27,900 and in 1995 is was $28,650 * One 1994 and two or three 1995s are reported to have been imported by LR Hess Rafz, CH and are in Switzerland (as of 11/97) * A number have been bought back by LRNA under lemon laws. A '95 Beluga Black (VIN unknown) has been reported to be one. * LRNA numbers roughly correspond to build order but that is not always true. In the Registry each vehicle is listed in build order. |

www.discoweb.com
www.d-90.com www.rovergirls.com and www.roversnorth.com would be better resources for the info you seek.

Whats the deal? You just here to pick a fight. I hope you pay way to much money for a piece of shiat.
Its neat to point out a shortcoming and act all superior like you know your head from your ass. But I get tired of idiots getting on our forum and bashing our marque. So why don't you go pound some sand. Its a working dog period. If you want to make her a shanerover for buy her a Disco or Range Rover. Colonist JP Quote:

An F-250 would be comfier and safer. If she's just going to drive it to work and back (or to the manicurist's and back) why not just buy her a car? Something with airbags? Something reliable? Or does "being English" mean the rig will be more reliable for you than for us poor, clueless Americans? Maybe you should get her a Jeep? After all, it is the rover of America isn't it? How about a RAV-4? Oh, I forgot, you are looking for the snob factor. Well, the puddles of gear oil on your driveway will not impress the neighbors, rest assured.
Get her an Escalade. She (and you) will be happier. Simon (my mom's English - and she lived there once, too. She drives a VW Eurovan).

Touchy
Some touchy people on this site......guess that is what happens when you associate yourself fully with what you drive. Anyway for those of you that gave some useful info thanks a bunch, really appreciate the help......for the other's.....quit being so touchy.....just not very manly you know. Any yes I am from WV originaly...just got some mixed blood. I am a proud (and untouchy) Amercian by the way.

I drove a D90 for 18 months but there is no way I would drive it every day.
I know of two "an Arles Blue ST will command a higher price because that was the only year it was offered that way" Actually these command the lowest prices i my experience. There was a good reason it was onlly offered for one year, none of them sold!

If you could learn to SEARCH and then ask some specific questions, you might earn a little respect here. Then we might talk to you like a man not some schoolyard boy. You bloodline does nothing for our tech section take it to chit-chat. Why don't you just erase this whole post. Do some searching and ask some well thought out questions here. Then try not to get so defensive and just sit back, take the responses with a grain of salt. When some other dimwit comes on with a silly question then you can put on your hardhat. I may even help out, with your new post, if you play nice, bully. JP

I actually read this BB because the people here don't seem to associate themselves fully with what they drive (ok, well maybe some of them do), and they actually do things with and to their trucks. Not many debates on what kind of rivet is proper where on this site.
I drive a 14 year old Volvo every day. My wife drives a Chevy Subdivision, and I have a 109 Bastard, that I drive weekly, less if it is broken. My commute is 1.5 miles each way and so I spend maybe 25 minutes a day in the car tops, so I don't associate myself with any vehicle really. But feel free to keep making ASSumptions. Simon

I drove my 94 d-90 everyday for four years. My girlfriend drove it twice she didn't like it either time. If you wife is short it will be harder for her to drive (limited visibility) The manuals are very notchy compared to more modern (japanesish) manual boxes. The brakes are good but remember no abs so they will lock up something a lot of people aren't use to anymore. Stock they don't ride that bad and with some softer springs actually ride pretty well. Gas mileage sucks regardless but they are fun to drive and look better than any truck on the road in my opinion. The a/c sucks and makes the car overheat if you aren't mocing while it's running. The heat works pretty good but it takes a little while to warm up and the blower motors can get clogged. With a/c the passenger side front seat is quite cramped. With all these disadvantages I love my truck and wouldn't want to drive anything else (well when it runs again.) Best of luck with it. You might want your wife to drive it a little before the purchase if it's truly for her if not just buy it and give her your car.

Oh well, seems I can't run anybody off nowadays.
Keep in mind that D90's are somewhat unsafe at speed in turns. If your GF tends to speed and is unattentive while driving, there is a good chance she might roll it over pulling out of the grocery store parking lot. And no one here wants to see a low mile LR suffer an early demise. So maybe a Land Cruiser or Subaru Brat. JP

Pendy....Ben thanks a bunch for the info. I'll run off now. Really I do like LR's...I have long been a fan of them even if they are not the most trouble-free trucks in the older versions. Just holding my own on the site. HAGO.
