Rover TF727 vs Chrysler TF727 ????

I need to know the output of the Rover 727 ??

I need to attach it to a NP231 and I wonder about the similarities between it and the Chrysler 727....

They should be very similar BUT as I have not leyed my hands on the Rover unit (without the transfer attached) I am not sure of the type of output.

Can you help me???

Thanks

Eduardo

TF 727 vs Chrysler 727

Can't help on the back end but be aware the 727 lies in the rover rotated clockwise to clear the front prop. This could? cause the Chrysler T box to
be rotated. Check!!.

Do they use a special oil pan in the Rover then? Or pickup/filter?

Gentleman, please educate me.

I thought the Rover automatic transmission had 4 gears, and the Chrysler 727 only has three??? A buddy of mine said that there was a bolt-on overdrive for the 727, is that what the rover auto has??

Thanks.

Max, from what I remember, the 727 was in early Rangies. The 4sp auto you are referring to is the ZF unit. Two completely different animals.

the Rover TF727 and the ZF (also rotated) both have special pans and pickup assemblies to suit this application, the ZF in particular has a very deep pan and pick up pipe.

I have the Rover 727 on hand.....

I went today to pick up the Rover 727 and check what I had learnt in this post:
That the Rover 727 was basically a Chrysler 727 with an adaptor in the output.... and YES it is just that way.
I could not fit it in my truck , because it had the transfer in it.....(same price two units 727+LT230...) so I will have to return tomorrow with a larger truck and pick it up. Then I will disassemble it and post some pictures.

Thansk to all.

All I wish is that after retiring the adapter I find a 21 or 23 spline shaft that I can attach to my NP231.....

You will find a 10 spline male output shaft. Doesn't mean that you couldn't disassemble the trans and rebuild it with the proper output shaft to suit though. If you do this please let me know as I would buy the rover 727 output from you.

Sounds like it might work-- If I can get you all the stuff to adapt the tail end of the 727 to the 231, you will send me all the parts needed to adapt the 727 to the LT230? I'll do some digging.

64rovr,

If this doesn't work out, Ashcrofts in the UK have the Rover tailhousing for mating it (any) 727 to the LT230 and have fixed the lubrication problem that plagued the Land Rover OEM application.
