Off with the rest of the engine

shipfitters disease has set in.

The price of a new disco II long block is sooooo low that I want to install one rather than "fix" the 3.5 in the rangie.

I need the info on the cam mod, the front cover change and any other issues I might face.

In reality this gives me more time to set up the 3.5 for a future install in a series

Thanks
Ron

Humm,

2 grand 7 grand

.6 liter ain't shit

plus the 3.5 EFI won't handle 4.6 litres of displacement.

I will be happy with my 4.0

Ron

Part it out, part it out thats what I should do. Way I will make you a killer deal on an almost new LT230.

Guys this is my driver. Got to be cheap and quick to put back together.

4.0 is plenty of power

You really should be chanting:

200Tdi 200Tdi 200Tdi

That might get me going

seriously though, any BTDT on the 4.0 swap?

Ron

Hi again,

Yeah, if you are looking for QUICK, the a Rover engine is definitely the answer. If you are looking for complex, and not so cheap (which you aren't), then a complete drivetrain conversion is the opposite answer.

200Tdi??? Go get two hampsters and a rubber band. You'll be happier (and have more power to boot), than the 200Tdi. You know that though right???

I did the 3.9 to the 4.2 conversion on my 1990 RR. The reasons I opted for the 4.2 conversion were several.

I wanted to retain all of my original accesories (alternator, pumps, etc...)

I wanted to retain the original electronics (for better or worse)

I wanted to get it in quick (which kind of happened)

I trusted the people that I feel really knew Rover motors with the decision to go 4.2 . At the time I knew a hell of a lot less than I do now. Frankly, I probably would go 4.2 again (if I wasn't going full bore conversion).

On a daily driver RR (disco or D90 even), a Rover engine swap for another Rover engine is definitely the way to go.

I am not questioning the choice of 4.6, but am questioning the ease of conversion.

Dave Brown from Az. has done the 4.6, and he did all sorts of computer stuff, injection, cam, etc...and had a bit of trouble sorting it all out. I had my own problems with my conversion, but they weren't nearly as bad as what I understand he went through.

Good luck. It's not easy performing open heart surgery!

Later,

Michael
